Bottle, feels filtered/pasteurised. Virtually pitch brew with a dimpled and extremely stubborn beige collar. Sweetish odd snout with seaweed, Black Jack stickiness, background roast, fennel seed, a varnishy walnut note belonging to a much paler nut brown ale-type beer. Something slatey and northern (S.Smiths?) that appeals, but the spice doesn’t. Slick but not full in the mouth developing a liquorice and charred cardboard character; bitterness like chiccory or cheap coffee, watery burnt finish. Pretty blatant liquorice/fennel to the point I suspect it’s actually been spiced. Far from classic stout but a pleasant enough drinking beer. If you like a penny bag of Black Jacks tipped in your pint.

Black in the glass with a decent head that sticks nice to the glass. Roasted malts and coffee, decent sweetness. A bit to watery for my taste, and something weird getting trough near the end.

Bottle shared in a train. Black pour, thick tan head. Aroma is full of diacetyl, creamy and buttery, together with some roasted malts and a hint of coffee. Flavor is dry, roasted and creamy. Full bodied for the low abv, but a little chemical and buttery. A little bad, but also a little likeble.

Bottle. Black with reddish brown edges, coat of beige head. Aroma has light roasted grain, hazelnuts, herbs, licorice. Taste is very salty and slightly metallic with some roasted malt, cocoa and nut flavours. Sweeter as it warms and the shock of the salt wears off. Quite complex and interesting underneath, but far too salty.
