Genuine Oudenaarde old brown top-fermented beer. Traditionally brewed. Matured for over one year at the brewery. Used to be brewed by Clarysse (now closed).

Bottle, RBESG Grand Tasting 07. Thanks to jacob for this. 1982 vintage. Murky brown, thin off-white head. Malty alcoholic, wheaty, warm and something else that I couldn’t think of, perhaps it was almond? Mouth is lively and oak aged. Malty sweetness, lots of fruit there too. Finishes sweet and slightly stale, but still excellent.

Huge thanks to Jacob, bottle from 1982 and early 90’s. Rating is for 1982, thought the early 90’s bottle was great also. Alround, early sweetness, tart fruit, syrupy find of fruit balanced by the woody sourness, hints of dusty funk, good lasting finish. I managed to get a few glasses of this so chin chin the cad.

Reddish brown. Decent foam. Lots of carbonation. Sweet, syrupy aroma. Tart fruit flavor with a sour milky note. Not my type of beer.

Bottle from 1991 at de Herren... Reddish brown with a small head. Very slightly oxydated in aroma but not in flavour. Notes of malt, fruit, caramel, berries and somewaht sweet and vinous.

Miksu (5023) - Jyväskylä, FINLAND - JUL 13, 2007
Bottled. Dark reddish brown color with tan creamy head. Sour aroma with licorice and acetic acid. Sweet and sour flavor with toasty and nutty notes, licorice, acetic acid and berries. Some sharp acidity in the finish.

Bottle, 25 cl. This is better than the old Felix brewed by clarisse, it’s like an Duchesse in a lighter version. Hazy very dark red/brown with a short lived beige head. Aroma malts a bit caramel, and cherry aromas. Medium body. Taste quite sweet with a good finish.

Bottled, BB december /2001. Decent aroma of caramel malts, raisins, fruitiness and dust. Quite winey. Hazy, brown coloured with a thin, off-white head. Lacing is quite okay for a beer this old. Taste is initially sweet and becomes more sour. Fruitiness and caramel, some tartness, quite winey, but not port-like. Dusty, aged taste. Bit dry finish. Nice stuff, but not really balanced in taste.

Aged small bottle, best before December 2001. Deep mahogny colour wit a tan head that reduced to a minimum. Wonderful aged beer aroma with all the essentials:raisins, dry dusty cellar, even tarter fruit. Mellow fruit, sour yoghurt countered by sweet caramel, definite dry cellar notes. Still medium-bodied, but rather flat with the years. It probably was not the sourest oud bruin to begin with, but age has added an extra dry twist to an already superb beer. Still very drinkable.

Bottled 1991 (37,5cl) - Orange brown hazy body, big bubbled lasting white head; Lots of sour brown malty vinegar aromas, but a quite thick layer of oxidization is covering all the pleasure; The body is better, deep, freshly sour, slightly lactic, with lots of sweetness backing it; It finishes long, at first freshly lactic sour, malty sweet with length, but again lots of oxidization age aromas is covering. This beer was to old.

Bottle at home. Reddish brown. Decent foam. Lots of carbonation. Sweet, syrupy aroma. Fruity and sour. Make that, very sour. Can taste cherrys and alcohol, although overall % isn’t that high. I’m not sure how old my bottle is, but looks very old, part of a last batch sold at BierKoning, A’dam. Very sour indeed.
