Cask at the Southampton on 25th January 2010. Black with a disappearing head. Abundant malt and caramel in the background with fruity notes on the tongue. These were slightly sour apple/raspberry fruit with hints of barleysugar/boiled sweet. An increasingly dry finish, and texture on the flat side.

Cask (gravity dispense) at Chelmsford Winter Beer Festival, 4 February 2010. A different beer to the other Felstar mild which has appeared under the names Crix Forest, or Forest Mild, according to the festival organizers. Certainly seemed rather different to me - less overt fruit but more chocolate. Lots of it in fact. Also plenty of dark, burnt malt. Lovely dark colour too. A top class mild.

Cask at Southampton Arms, Gospel Oak. No head, completely black. Fruity chocolate aroma followed by mild pears and chocolate flavours. Hints of licorice. Dry aftertaste. A bit light body. Easy drinking, but sufficiently complex.
