3rd February 2011
Chelmsford Winter Beer Festival. Loads of beers shared with ChrisO and Harrisoni - Cheers! Hazy brown beer, no head. Sweet beer - almost cloying. Tangy licorice with (as ChrisO said) a touch of Fishermans Friend. A bit odd. Kudos to Felstar though - for trying different things!

Cask (gravity dispense). Beer #5 at Chelmsford Winter Beer Festival on 3 February 2011. Dark reddish-brown. No head. A bit sweetish with a slightly under-brewed malt feel. Lots of licorice and a touch of fisherman’s friend. Also some sharp fruit. Decent but doesn’t quite come together for me. Didn’t really notice a lot of American hop influence, although I’m not convinced they’d work particularly well in an old ale anyway.

A Mes rate:
Cask at Chelmsford Beer Festival. Murky mid borwn colour. Well balanced nose with the American hops showing through and some liquorice. Flavour follows on from the nose plus some sweet malt. Good bitter grassy hops finish. Very Belgian character all round. The American hops do a fine job. Enjoyed this one.
