Bottle at Chelmsford Beer Festival. Black and reasonably thick in the body. Malty nose with plenty of interesting dark fruit. Heavy fruity malt flavour with plums and something that reminds me of a good chunky steak. Full bodied with a well balanced finish. Pretty good I thought.

Warning! Early amateur rating! Very dark beer. Marmite and smoke - hard work when fridge cold. Mellows a bit as it warms up but a long way from being me favourite Felstar.

Bottle, 50 cl. Bought @ Bab festival.
Dark brown color, with creamy beige head. Aroma stron roasted malts dark fruits.
Medium to full body.
Taste very strong roasted dark malts, fruity.

Creamy-beige head, over dark red-brown beer. Lots of liquorice (drop), little nose in any case. Liquorice, dry, even wry bitter taste, leafy, and lots of dark malts. Very slick, rather well-bodied, but ending a bit empty. Not very impressive, and even after a long explanation of the brewer, I’m still at a loss WHICH Kulmbacher beer - he speaks about a style? - is meant.

Bottled conditioned. A black beer with a massive tan coloured head. This head is partly due to the fact it’s an English BC beer as this oten happens. In spite of the label’s claim, I did find it roasty. In fact both the aroma and taste were burnt and very stouty. A pleasant enough beer, but we can’t bottle condition very well on this island!
