3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 Doppelganger (1383) - Dry County, Arkansas, USA - JUL 9, 2007
Gravity, Merton Beer Festival. Very dark brown, almost opaque, fine layer of off-white head. Rustic earthy bread aroma, lightly roasty, light caramel. Simple, but attractive. Earthy bread flavor, just a little smoke, some copper penny pinging around in the background, but in this case it’s a nice thing. Light body, but not thin. A solid mild, not a shocker, but hearty and satisfying.
3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 Fin (5749) - Merton, Oxfordshire, England, Oxfordshire, ENGLAND - JUL 9, 2007
Cask at Merton Summer Beer Festival 07-07-07. Poured very dark brown without much of a head, great smokey aroma which then followed through into the mouth. This was a jolly good Mild that tasted nice malty and ’roasty smokey’ but for some reason it never quite lived up to expectations.
3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 harrisoni (10070) - Ashford, Kent, ENGLAND - JAN 22, 2007
500ml bottle from brewery stall at Ely Market. Very dark brown with sparse beige ehad. Very attractive choc/coffee aroma. Some juicyness in mouth. Then very pleasant choc mousse flavour comes through. Very attractive mild. Good structure. Some hop, but not overly noticeable, good structure. Choc never gets flabby. One of the better milds, good interesting finish with some hop.
4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20 bluekuma (94) - London, Greater London, ENGLAND - OCT 2, 2006
Cask conditioned, gravity dispense at St Albans BF ’06. Very dark brown with no head. Striking cocoa aroma. Good cask mouthfeel. Tastes of cocoa, tobacco, not too sweet; quite dry & bitter for a mild. Favourite beer of a brief few hours at this excellent festival.
2.5 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 9/20 Gethinbeer (1565) - Musky, Nova Scotia, CANADA - MAY 21, 2006
From bottle. A very deep dark colour, hint of red, with slight carb. It has a smokey syrup aroma. As I taste it reminds me of smokey charcoal. Overall, not to bad, I feel there is a good beer here trying to get out.
3 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 imdownthepub (7491) - Banbury, Oxfordshire, ENGLAND - MAY 17, 2006
Bottle Conditioned, 500ml. Black with copper hue, tan head. A tobacco aroma and initial taste again from the bottle conditioned version, but in this case the hoppiness comes through with a fruity, malty body too. Develops into a decent mild, shame about the initial flavour.
3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 maeib (6637) - Wootton, Northampton, Northamptonshire, ENGLAND - OCT 9, 2005
Cask conditioned - gravity dispense - Bedford BF. A black mild with a tiny wisp of a tan head. The aroma is fruity with sweet roasted malts. The taste is also on the fruity side with some lactose. Full bodied and to me verging on a sweet stout. The best of the milds I rated at the fest.
