From a bottle. Pours a very dark brown, strong oak aroma with hints of roasted malt, smooth and rich. Give it a go.

Glass @ GABS 2016, Melbourne Near-black with tan head. Good nose - plenty of citrus & pine hop, charred malt, touch of vanilla & toasty oak. Lovely smooth texture to it. Palate reveals notes of toasty buttery oak amongst big resiny hop notes & mild roast notes. Top notch!

Bottle from Beer Cartel (April 2014). Oily dark brown/black, creamy tan head, chocolate, vanilla, some subtle oak, roast grain, piney hops, smooth texture, full body, long dry bitter finish. Excellent.

Black big tan head. Aroma is amazing - vanilla choc wafer black malt. Taste is the same with some nice bitterness balancing the vanilla sweetness. Great stuff - one of the best black IPAs around.

Pours black with a large tan head. Nose shows tropical fruit, soft roasted malt, bready noets and very soft oak. The roast plays a more dominant role as a flavour, with cocoa and nutty notes. Again, the oak is very soft. some lychee, pine and papaya are present too. Pretty awesome stuff. Carbonation is perhaps just a little high.

Tap at Archive Beer Boutique July 2013. Middle of the road as far as black IPA’s go. Good combination of malt and hops that works wee but left me wanting more.

Poured an opaque black with a slight mahogany edge tint (like a porter) and a one-finger light tan frothy head that retained well ands laced OK. Carbonation low. Aroma strongly of resin and citrus/grapefruit hops. Taste strongly of citrus hops with a trace of roasted malt. Medium body. Creamy mouthfeel with a long, nice, moderately bitter finish. Quite nice.

Bottle split at the Black (IPA) Friday tasting, big thanks to Bro Josh, licker of men, 09/05/14. Light black with a moderate tan covering that thins to edgework. Nose is bitter roastings, pine, bitter grapefruit, cocoa powder. Taste comprises light coffee notes, pine bite, tropicana, cocoa powder. Medium bodied, fine carbonation, semi drying close. Adequate CDA - not one to revisit though!

Cold: Opens with pine needles and a ton of juicy grapefruit in the aroma. Dang hoppy in the taste with tons of citrus rind and bitter finish. Warm: Juicy qualities are still present but the vanilla nuance from oak starts taking over. Swirling it in my mouth, the coconut character of the barrel comes forward. There is very subtle chocolate roastiness in the taste. Some savouriness. Hops at the back, again. Extremely well done beer. Medium bodied and the hops may cling a little too long.
