COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
American IPA. 48 IBU OG 1059 Our flagship IPA that had a primary fermentation in new French oak barriques before being returned to stainless steel for final processing and carbonation. Think all the great pine needle and grapefruit you associate with Hop Hog with an added vanilla aroma and softened mouthfeel.

UPDATED: MAY 12, 2011 Tap. Nice piney/citrus/ wood nose. Thickish body with a smooth vanilla accentuated body and a rounded hop finish. Very full in the body. Works quite well.

On tap @ the Wheaty. Great hop aroma which blends in really well with the French oak. The oak is certainly well balanced and though noticeable does not dominate. Very good beer, one of the best IPAs I’ve had in a while.

Tap at Feral. Nice cloudy orange pour with a small white head. Nice unique aroma. Citrus, grapefruit and dried apricot cut through with notes of vanilla. Lots of the dried fruits in the taste with the additions of oak and vanilla. Much softer and well balanced compared to regular hop hog. Really enjoyed this one and wasn’t expecting the subtlety. Very nice

Tap. Gold with a white head. Intense kumquat aroma with some pine and flowers. Vanilla and vinous oaky notes are there but don’t overwhelm. But they do in the taste. Normal Hop Hog (to me) is a great-smelling but middling-tasting beer and here the beer flavours are just swamped by sharp oak. Some caramel sweetness. Oaky finish.

Tried at the brewery a couple of weeks back, presents the same as the Hop Hog(obvious), a little bit more body, vanilla on the aroma and taste on top of the rest of the HH characters, almost liqueur like. Wasn’t expecting the barrel aging to improve an already brilliant beer but enjoyed this.
