Recent times has seen the traditional hop growing regions of Germany endeavouring to breed flamboyant and expressive aroma and flavour hops to rival the varieties offered by the new world US, New Zealand and Australia growers. We thought it was about time to see what these new German hops were about and have sourced the high oil varieties of Polaris, Mandarina, Bavaria, Saphire and Herkules. This German IPA has come out bursting with fresh stone fruit, mandarin and grassy aromas. The flavour is choc full of spicy resinous hops, and is rounded out by a solid whack of bitterness.

It's tasty, crisp and refreshing. It kind of locks the wheat flavours that you expect in a german beer, and then punches a bit of IPA. Good stuff

not quite up to par for feral - here we have a cool idea not perfectly executed. plenty of grass and orange-pink-fruit in aroma, flavour is like tipping out a lawnmower - and the lawnmower has gone over some fennel and sage weeds as well as just grass. some pencil shaving malt to follow but the edgy components of the flavour, and the saltyharsh bitterness, are exaggerated by the high carb and overly attenuated body - needs more body and melanoidins.

Pours amber with a fading head. Nose shows spicy, herbal and floral hops with some grassy notes followed by some sweet biscuity malt. Similar flavours, very herbal, grassy and spicy. Just a touch of malt underneath.

Poured a cloudy golden colour with a two-finger white foamy head that retained very well but laced poorly. Carbonation high and coarse. Aroma with citrus/grapefruit, a hint of melon and some floral notes. Taste unusual with tarty grapefruit, spice and some sweetness. Light body. A lingering tartness on the finish.

From a 330ml bottle on 19/8/2014. Pours a clear very light golden with a bi bright head. Has a light passionfruit aroma. It’s a quite curious beast in the mouth, with apple and sweet and sour citrus fruit and some bready malt, but its soon overtaken by a big, very dry, chemical tasting bitterness. Has a medium body and lively carbonation. It has the makings of a good beer but the finish is just a bit harsh and disconcerting. Interesting but doesn’t quite pull it off.
