One of my favourite finds this year. Great blend of chocolatey malt and citrus hops.

330ml bottle from Leura Cellars, Leura. Black colour, beige foam head leaving lacing and aroma of smoke, malt, fruity citrus hops. Taste is malt caramel, smoke, ash, with fruity floral citrus, grapefruit & pine, hoppy bitterness. Foamy mouthfeel, medium bodied, soft carbonation, dry hoppy & roasted bitter finish. Nicely drinkable.

Drank during MD with Jay Amanda Matt after ICS lunch. From Craftissimo. Pitch black, medium light tan creamy frothy head, lots of delicate lacing. Smells of dark/burnt coffee, burnt malt, booze, tobacco. Nose has complex big flavours but overall it's relatively light, not too heavy at all. Taste is dark malt, bitter coffee chocolate, stony, Body is medium, slick, not at all creamy, slightly lemony. Very enjoyable, bitter and burnt but still very drinkable.

Bottle from Craftissimo at home on cold Sunday afternoon. Dark black pour with puffy grey/tan head. Aroma is roasted malt and tropical fruit. Taste is similar. Like a light black IPA, maybe a black APA? Quite nice. Roasted coffee flavors overpower hops a little bit at first and then give way to fruity hops before a bitter coffee chocolate finish. Nice.

Bottle (330ml). Pours opaque black (maybe a slight reddish hue) with a firm latte-coloured head. Nose and flavour is big on roasty malts (coffee, dark chocolate) but there are definite hoppy notes as well (pine needles, grapefruit, passionfruit, lime, melon). Palate is quite rich and malty with a decent dry hop bitterness that satisfies.

Bottle into a stemmed glass. Smells like an IPA, looks like porter with a mocha coloured head. Tastes like an IPA upfront followed by a malty and possibly even chocolatey stout at the end. Great mix of flavours and plenty of them. A little difficult to pick out individual flavours, but the mix works well. Bought a case for Christmas (note: only 16 x 330ml bottles to a case). Very nice beer that satisfies the desire for a dark beer at Christmas with the practicality of an IPA for the hot climate I live in. Doubt you will be disappointed.

Purchased as part of Bridge roads 24 days till Christmas Bottle. Pours a dark black with minimal head carbonation> Aroma. Sweet tropical fruits, and what i can best describe as a combination of caramel and banana on the nose. Taste. A general roastiness throughout, with flavours of citrus and toffeed banana. Overall. Quite a good beer, and a good choice as it’s the first of this style i’ve experienced.

Cask @ Keg & Brew. Medium brown, medium head. Hoppy aroma is a bit citrusy. The palate is toasty, citrusy. On cask a light lively body. Creamy finish. Flavourful, good brew.

(Bottle) Fantastic looking beer - black, showing ruby when held to light, with good mocha coloured head. Lovely fresh pine and citrus aroma. Great palate, medium bodied, smooth with excellent carbonation. Taste is great too. Refreshing tartness in foretaste gives way to a rich dark roast malt, chocolate, coffee mid palate with some contrasting tarter fruity hints. This smoothly transitions into a very pleasant hoppy bitter finish.
