The aroma is big hoppy citrus goodness, a little papery but also some roasted marshmallow notes. Decent head and pour. Fantastic mouthfeel, creamy and full. A touch of sweet malt on the finish, a bit of hops mid palate but not overpowering. Great beer.

From a 330ml bottle on 25/8/2015. Pours a dark brown with a small tan head. Chocolate malt and fruity hops feature in the aroma. Flavour wise, there’s roasted, caramel and chocolate malt, mango and peach, and a decent dash of hops. Not overly sweet, it has a creamy texture and medium carbonation. A solid enough black IPA.

Deep cola/ black body with light tan head. Nose is a burnt toffee and coffee aroma with a hint of leather - smells quite malty and leaves one in anticipation for a sweet, heavy brew. The dark malts certainly sit at the front of this beer, slight bit of bitterness but it’s not at all prominent. Toffee and roast nut come through. Not thick enough, nor does it melt in your mouth as much as id like for the style - a little watery and a reasonably tasteless aftertaste leave me disappointed and wanting for a heavier representation of the style.

Bottle. - pours just about black with a dense tan head. Aroma is resin hop, nettles and roast malt. Taste is hops up front then a roast dry finish. Medium palate. Nice drop.

From 330 ml bottle. Pours a solid black with a hint of honey-brown at the very edge and a thick, lasting tan head. Aromas of pineapple, grapefruit, pine needles, overripe mango and lime. Taste is tropical fruit up front before a firm pine and lemon zest bitterness washes in. Light coffee and a bit of fresh pear at the end. Substantial mouth feel. Fruity aftertaste. A really approachable black IPA.

Pours jet black, very enticing! The aroma is more dominated by robust malt than fruity hops. Malt also dominates the flavour profile a little too much for a black IPA. Lots of sweet caramels, robust coffees and bitter chocolates balanced slightly with some hop flavour, but nothing like the hop flavour you expect from an IPA. Beautiful porter, but needs more of a hop kick to call it a great black IPA. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

330mL bottle from Slowbeer Near-black, holds a good solid beige head. Nose packs a punch - citrusy, resiny, piney, passionfruity hops aplenty, rich roasty, nutty, charred malty goodness. Full bodied, sticky, moderate carbonation, seems bigger than it is. Big flavours on the body - roasty malts, cocoa, some meaty smoky Rauchmalz-like character, with resiny, citrusy, tropical fruit hops. Bitterness is lifted but well checked. Seriously good stuff - not just an IPA that is black, it’s like an IPA that made love to a complex, slightly smoky porter, and had babies.

A subtle black ipa with subtle lemon citrus and burnt toast notes. In the mouth there’s also some nuttiness that I’d associate with a Brown ale. The main criticism is that the palate’s a little thin.
