4.7 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20 Shambles (33) - Melbourne, - FEB 14, 2011
UPDATED: MAR 1, 2011 On Tap at GABS Local Taphouse Melbourne. Pours dark brown to almost black with an inch thick, smooth beige head. Aroma of tropical fruit, manderin, citrus, orange, melon (fruit salad) and some fantastic pine needle, forest floor, grassy goodness and subtle chocolate, toffee malt aromas. Silky smooth texture, great medium-high carbonation, long dry bitter finish. This is one of the best beers i’ve had from Australia. A very clear stand out from the lineup on the day.

Awesome aroma and taste of citrus fruit, really can’t say much more for the beer, those flavours and smells explode out. Really enjoyed it.

More on the IPA side of things than the stouty porter flavour. Head dropped off quickly, but the flavour finishes with a lovely citrus note. On tap, Bier Deluxe.

Pours a real dark colour with a beautiful beige head. Aroma is citrus and tropical fruit with dark malts and hops. Taste is a similar story with a slight roastiness. The finish is quite a nice combination of citrus fruits and bitter hop. Really great

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20 jonno (1457) - JAPAN - MAY 7, 2011
UPDATED: MAY 12, 2011 Tap. Reminded me more of an IPA. The dark malts are there but are quite subdued. Lots of pine and citrus everywhere. Plenty going on and the carbonation makes this pretty easy drinking.
3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 bluevegie (2930) - Perth, AUSTRALIA - FEB 28, 2011
Tried on tap at Feral. The black hophog? Citra hops balance the dark malts very well. More sessionable than most black ipa’s I have tried. Dark brown body, clear, with lasting almost beige head. Initial hop nose then light roasted notes. Smooth texture, a little chocolate in the taste with vague ash notes on the finish.

On tap at GABS St Kilda. Great beer. Aroma is smoked, with caramel, cola, and grass. Taste starts sweet, with bitter notes, and good length. Palate is velvety, and medium bodied. Brown, with a frothy head.
