COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Feral smoked porter has a very gentle bitterness and combines the classic coffee and chocolate character of the Porter style with a subtle smoked hickory flavour derived from the use of peated distiller’s malt.

On tap at the albion hotel in Newcastle. Pretty solid beer, plently of smoked flavours. Lacks a Little taste, and flavour for my liking.

Looks like cola - dark brown with some lighter highlights, small tan head and fizzy carbonation. Aromas of stewed fruit, burnt sugar and light smoke. The taste is similar, though the smoke is a little more prominent with a pleasant hickory note. Finishes with some dark chocolate and black coffee. Fruity aftertaste. Kind of strange but not bad.

Bottle. Smelled of smoked meats, chocolate and roasted coffee. Pours a clear dark brown. Minimal off white head which dissipated quickly. Taste chocolate and coffee notes, some coca-cola, and some smoke towards the end but fades quickly. Lively carbonation, a lot thinner than I expected. Was expecting a little more from this beer to be honest

Aroma: Smoked malty goodness. Appearance: Clear dark red brown, think brownish head. Taste: Heavy smoked malt flavours, medium bitterness, definitely tastes like what I’d imagine they’re going for, bacon in a bottle. Palate: Smooth mouth feel, light bitter after taste. Overall: Interesting aromas and flavours, very subtle nut, heavy smoked malt, bacon in a bottle in a nutshell, not for everyone, but drinkable.

Bottle. Pours a very dark brown with tan coloured head. Aromas show some smoke as well a some nutty maly. Flavours are somewhat muted and show some sweetness before a roasted bitter finish. A little thin and not a lot going on to be honest.

Feral. I like the label, but the beer does not have a spetacular head, in spite of the nice dark mahogany colour. There’s some smoke on the nose, resembling an extinguished campfire where meat was roasted on. In time, the aroma drifts towards a plummy, roasted, typical porter style. Little smokiness on the taste, with chocolate and coffee dominating, perhaps too much coffee. The palate is thin, with excessive carbonation, tiny bubbles spoiling any attempt to enjoy a nice finish. I’d say it’s misplaced here, being much more of a porter than a smoked.

330mL bottle. Pours deep, deep mahogany with a small off white head. First whiff reminds me of the aroma of the kindling when you first light a fire. The choc/coffee notes also come into play in the aroma and the flavour is reminiscent of some sort of smoked meat product. OK beer for the style i guess but nothing outstanding..

Fairly bland for a smoked porter. Aroma was nice and smokey and robust but the flavour is a bit of a letdown. Almost tastes a bit like a lager. Very dry ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Got a big pleasant aroma and flavour of smoke that was awesome but there wasn’t a great deal to back up the initial flavour or aroma. Tasted a bit to thin, didn’t get any chocolate or another malt flavours coming through to back up the smokiness. Enjoyed it, just thought it would have a littl more depth.

Really good local effort. The well handled smoke, chocolate and hickory lifts this beer far above most pedestrian porters from Australia. Excellent weight for a 4.7% beer but it doesn’t have what I would call a long finish.

330ml bottle from Slow Beer. Black as coal with a thin wispy tan head that doesn’t really hang around for too long. Smoked ham in the aroma is quite good while the flavour is even better. Smoke in the flavour, again you get the impression that you are eating smoked ham. Easy to drink and goes down well.
