1.9 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 7/20
Amber brown, small head of mixed bubbles. Nose is raisin sweet malts with a bit of an oxidized nutty element. Sugary sweet and with a dark fruit and caramel character. Too sweet really, it begins to cloy as the glass progresses. Medium bodied but lacking enough carbonation to keep it lively. I am not sure if this beer wants to be a dunkel or what but, whatever it is, it misses the mark.

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Pours a very nice clear dark brown, sustained head, medium lacing. Somewhat thin-bodied and light. Smell has some woods/forest in addition to the usual caramel and cola. Flavors are moderately sweet (brown sugar) and light-to-moderate bitterness (grass). When cold, this is a very nice example of a mid-sweetness dunkel; not your overdone watery cola nut or waaay to sweet caramel variety. Balanced. Better than the sum of the parts and worth a revisit if better dunkels aren’t around. Bottle, very fresh as always from Piwoteka.
