Very dark brown colour. Imbued with dark, roasty malt. Also coffee and chocolate, damsons and other stone fruit. If I have any complaint, its maybe a touch sweet but, otherwise a damn fine beer. Cask (gravity), White Cliffs Beer Festival, February 2005.

Half pint on gravity at The 24th Ipswich Beer Festival. Almost black body under a low head. Powerful aroma of roasted malt. Chocolate flavour with hints of dark fruit. Bitter sweetness in a lingering aftertaste. Enjoyable (21.09.2006).

Cask conditioned - handpump - Out Of The Vaults Leicester. A black coloured beer with a bubbly tan head. The aroma has lightly roasted malt and a bit of sweetness. The taste has good roasted malt character. The mouthfeel is thin but the roasty tastes linger which makes for an interesting experience.

Very dark with a small beige head. Aromas are earthy roast malts. Flavours are also earthy with fruit, chocolate and licourice coming through. Some dark chocolate bitterness on the finish, yet smooth on the palate. The alcohol is well disguised. A good beer.

Dark beer, looks similar to a stout. Very little aroma with a nice smoked flavour. Overall quite a basic strong beer.

Chappel Beer fest, Gravity. Is it a stout or is it a mild? If it's a mild it's very strong in flavour and strength. If it's a stout it's very light in body. After consultation with some drinkers around me we settle on mild. Lot's of licorice flavours and some mild roasty bits. A very delightful ale.
