First tasted this in Coanes, Johnstone in November 1991. Cask, handpump dispense. Ruby black in colour with a thin tan head. Strong roast grain present in the long aroma. Thin oily mouthfeel and good lacing. Dark malts deliver a rich maltloaf base with treacle toffee, mocha coffee, raisin fruit and chocolate. Dry prickle of dusty hop resins add to the malt well in the short aftertaste. Dryness continues with roast almonds, liquorice and molasses in the robust malty finish. An excellent mild and one of the best examples out there. Highly recommended.

Cask handpump at GBBF ’10. Very dark brown with an off white head. Ashy aroma. Undemanding ashy taste with dryness developing. Wanted a bit more grain, but it was fair enough.
