The Big Caboose Red Ale has arrived in town and shall soon be departing to come to a halt on many a shelf across BC and Alberta. And, if itís like the rest of our tasty little canned treats, it will undoubtedly pick up steam and have a whole load of party goers jumping on board the Big Caboose. Named after the train that rolls through Fernie, sounding its horn as it goes, itís an apt beer for the start of the fall. Sporting our new can design and look, it not only looks the part, but also tastes darn good.

No retention and no hops. Smells of caramel, molasses and sweet malt. Tastes of amber caramel and malt. Very light bitter finish. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

On tap at Tap & Barrel Coal Harbour, pours a hazy dark amber orange with a small beige head. Aroma brings out bready malts and some dry caramel. Flavour is about the same, bringing out a good balance of dry bready malt and caramel. Nothing complex or overly enjoyable but certainly not as bad as the average rating suggests. Decent amber ale.

Pretty good actually. Sweet, malty and flavourful. Nothing craft beer about this, but itís quaffable. Best of their basic beers.

Draft sample at Calgary International Beerfest 2014. Red amber colour. Aroma of fruity caramel with a touch of metal. Dark caramel, fruity and lightly toasty.

Pours a clear reddish amber color with a frothy and spotty off white head. Aroma of caramel, toffee and light fruit esthers. Taste is caramel, toffee, sweet biscuit and some fruity esthers. Nice American amber but too malt focused, needs more hop presence and less malt sweetness bit still enjoyable to drink.

Too ripe. Flavours don't blend, very unbalanced and the malt is slightly smoked. Overly sweet. Not a fan.

Dark amber color, with creamy head. Some caramel and medium to strong bitterness. Clean.
A real Red Ale, in the sense that the color is the only thing that remains after drinking this beer.

355 ml can courtesy of Robeerto # 079. Clear dark red copper, big rocky tan head slowly settles and lasts the whole ride. Aroma of rich dark roasted malt. Sweet dark burnt caramel malt taste, kinda dirty. Soft carbonation, medium bodied, low hopped. Earthy in the finish. Nice enough, but needs more hop balance. LBW (Lagerboys Be Wary)
