COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This time we opted for a robust Maple Porter, going by the name of Sap Sucker, which started its maiden voyage from the brewery to shelves throughout BC, on Friday December 5th – perfect timing for December festivities and those thirsty needs that generally accompany the season of good will. It’s a deliciously dark and robust Porter, with a delicate but flavourful touch of maple syrup.

Pours a dark black color with a tall dense, creamy, tan head. Aroma has a very malty nose with lots of chocolate malt coming through first, light plum notes, light nondescript sugary sweetness and a touch of earthy hops presence. Flavor starts off with a plum, chocolate, light cherry and light roasted malt presence but this quickly transitions to a very sweet that is boarder line cloying. Body feels very hefty and holds the flavors very well. This brew was weird in that it started off with a great flavor. As you drank more of the beer, the sweetness built to be too much. The base beer is really good and I would love to try their non-maple porter offering.

650ml brown bottle. Dark brown pour with some ruby edges. Tan head is creamy. Good lacing. Nose has some dark chocolate/cocoa power, a bit sweet. Taste is sweet, rich brown sugar, chocolate, slight coffee, traces of maple. Light roasty finish, mild coffee and chocolate notes and trace bitterness. Medium body, soft carbonation. A bit less thrilling and also less robust than I was hoping for. Overall the maple character is pretty well hidden, this comes across as ta bit oo sweet for my tastes. Maybe this plays out better in the winter, but there’s not much here that would make me revisit this beer.

Darkest amber, slight hue shines thru. Big lasting pillowy tan head. Sweet roasted malt aroma. Sweet caramel roasted malt taste infused with maple syrup. Some brown sugar and dark fruits. Lightly hopped, average carbonation. Finishes clean and sweet. Maybe a tad too sweet. LF (Lagerboy Friendly)

650ml bottle. Great looking head when first poured, tan brown in color which recedes quite quickly. Appearance is black, too black for a porter. Taste is a huge blast of sugar, sweet, sweet too sweet maple. I’m not a fan- struggling to finish.

Cherrywood-accented medium brown. Toasty aroma with chocolate, and no maple. Thick syrupy body, with light chocolate, and hints of toast and maple. OK porter, the maple is more a gimmick as it has largely fermented out, but it is probably better that way.

Bottle purchased in Golden BC in October 2011. Pours black with an off white head that lasts the whole way. Aromas are very subtle. Some maple and some malt. Not much of a maple taste. Very relaxed. Some roasted notes and gentle malts. Creamy body, decent session beer.

sulawang (613) - British Columbia, CANADA - DEC 20, 2011
pours onyx black, decent thick 1cm head with sticky lacing all around, almost invisible CO2 streams. Minor malted coffee on the nose. Huge torrent of fruity coffee up front, followed by mellowed nutty roasted malts with only a very minor hint of maple syrup. The maple is kind of in the background during the whole experience, but not prominent enough to discern. Finishes mildly sour but overall crisp and clean. Coffee on the exhale. Medium complexity, medium depth, low-medium length, low-medium carry. Overall a good session beer but no WOW factor to keep me coming back for a 2nd.

gramity (1307) - Edmonton, Alberta, CANADA - DEC 6, 2011
Very deep walnut to black colour with a tan frothy head and lace. Roasted malt, maple syrup aroma. Rich maple, coffee, chocolate roasted malt goodness. Slight bitterness on the palette. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bomber poured a clear dark reddish brown with a lasting tan head. Aromas of roasted malt, milk chocolate, light maple, light carmel and a hint of vanilla. Palate was medium bodied and smooth. Flavors of roasted malt, maple, cocoa and light carmel with a smooth lingering maple finish.

The pour is a dark brown, nearly opaque, nice amber tones on the edges. A finger of creamy light tan head. No carbonation. Some massive lacing. The nose is robust and well roasted with a light maple sweetness. A chewy, thick roast, notes of burnt cocoa and some coffee. A hint of bittering hop. The taste is smooth and creamy with a nice maple sweetness. A big robust roast, biscuits, a good roasty cocoa with a subtle woody toast note. Sweet middle with a subtle maple note. Overall, a good session porter.
