COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Fiddler Stout is a English "porter-style" ale. A dark colored heavy and full ale with a hint of coffee and chocolat. It has a bitter finish which originates from loads of Fuggle hops.

UPDATED: AUG 8, 2007 Cask glass
Consumed at De Fiddler, Den Haag, May 2006

Dark red and brown with more ruby hues at the bottom of the glass. Not really any sense of smoked or roasted malts in this one, but possibly some burnt maple and brown-ale-like qualities. Somewhat sweet dark cherries noticed, as well as old oak wood. Too light, just a bit too sweet. Uninteresting.

Cask at the brewpub. Nice chocolate aroma. Dark brown color, beige head, good lace. Sweet, malty, blackberries, chocolate, light roasted finish, light bitter, full body.

Cask at the brewpub. Full porter aroma, roasted malt and coffee, smoky aftertaste. Their best beer by far.

On draft at Fiddler. Very dark coloured, brownish head. Roasted malts in aroma. In flavour liquorice dominates (over the top imho), malt presence, quite bitter. The strong liquorice flavour totally ruins the fun for me. Not my kind of stout or porter (whatever they want it to be...).

Tap, Fiddler. Dark, brownish head. Soft weak aroma, bit roasted malt. Stronger taste, licorice, bitter, roasted malts. Decent stout, or porter?

From tap at the brewery’s pub. Dark brown body with ruby tints. Small off-white diminishing head. Virtually no lacing. Was served too cold. The aroma got frozen. Only coffee captures first. Then gets some sweet notes, dark bread, cassis. Coffee and hops in flavor. Burnt mouthfeel. Medium in body, dry a bit watery. Soft.

Had a pint of this one at the Brouwcafe itself. Nice stout, sweet and malty coffee taste. Looks nice.

(on tap at the brewpub) Roasted malty nose with some coffee in it. Black coloured with an off-white head. Taste is quite sweet, coffee malty and some toffee. Quite a decent brew.

Lacking aroma, just a bit of coffee. The flavor makes up for it. Lots of licorice and coffee. Agreeable sweetness, just a bit creamy.
