Bottle, ceramic. A clear one, quite flat, and dark golden in color. The aroma has a touch of fruity hops, with caramel dominating. Dried fruits as well. Full-bodied and lightly warming. The flavor has fruityness and caramel, some bitterness towards the end. A quite pleasant bock beer. 120218

Flasche von 1988. Geruch caramellig-malzig. Antrunk erneut Caramell und Malz. Mitte erscheint dann etwas lasch mit herben Einflüssen. Getreidiger Abgang, malzig. In Anbetracht des Alters noch ziemlich gut. Hut ab! Danke an Grima! Festival der Bierkulturen. Köln - 14.05.2011

Another gift. I see the German folks are still drinking it after 15 years of age, so I try it too.It has not gone bad, still some carbonation and has caramel and bread malty aroma. Only draw back is the palate, it has something suspended in it that I’ll just call "bits." Taste is still a fine bock though. I should have strained it.

1988 vintage (BBE date: March 1993). The bottle cap shows slight traces of oxidation. The beer in the glass is copper-brown with no foaming. Smells oxidized, fabulous caramel malty, slightly sweet. Starts very oxidized, with lots of caramel malt, slightly sour. The beer has hardly no carbonation. The aftertaste is very "aged", with heavy malt body. The further course remains very massive malty, oxidized and very dry. A unique experience to taste a beer like that!

Earthenware bottle: Light amber coloured, small foamy layer; deep caramelly-leathery and port-vinous nose with a tinge of alcohol; moderate bitter-sweet flavour; woody - vanilla-like - finish with a hoppy aftertaste. Not bad, still well drinkable......

(bottle, thanks grima!) pours a hazy golden-orange colour with a frothy white head and lots of microscopic floaties. aroma of caramel, brown sugar, chocolate fudge and raspberries, heavily oxidized, but no cardboard. flavour is mostly the same, again quite oxidized, with notes of dark chocolate, coffee, roasted malts and dark fruit. medium to heavy-bodied with no carbonation.

I had an old bottle of this, best by date was 1991. Bottle looks really good. Beer in the glass not very zippy, brownish, old aroma, reminds a little bit of cherry. Starts very mild, gets stronger and stronger, prickly-dry, a little bit alcoholic. Warming finish, a bit oily-sticky, but still well balanced. Very interesting!

16.9 oz ceramic bottle-Poured a deep amber almost brown with a small off white head. Aroma of malt and caramel. This medium bodied brew had a taste of the same with a bit of brown sugar. A nice tasting brew.
