I believe my first try from Fifty West Brewing. A very creamy and smooth experience--slightly herbaceous, but pleasant. Good first impression. On tap @ Dewey’s Pizza.

@ 50 West / Cincinnati --- Opaque black-brown, tan head that sinks to the rim, thin streaks of lace. Taste is toasted malt with just enough black coffee to justify the name; However, on the swallow, it is nothing but pure, rich tasting stout. This one is a cut above, an exceptional example of the style. Highly recommended.

Draft at brew pub opaque black with tan head. Nose medium roast coffee and chocolate. Taste early palate competes with strong bitter chocolate mixed with coffee. Mid palate roast and fairly bitter finish. Less roast than expected. Large on the bitter.

Sample at the brewpub. Brownish-black pour with a medium khaki head that diminishes gradually. Patchy lacing on the glass. Aroma of roasted coffee and malt. Medium-bodied with flavors of roast coffee, sweet malt and dark chocolate. The finish is roasty with a lingering black coffee aftertaste. Pretty good overall.

On nitro tap at the brewpub. Pours black with a thick dark tan head. Aroma of coffee beans, chocolate, sweet roasted malt. Flavor of coffee up front, with roasted nuts, roasted malt, and chocolate in the finish. Lots of coffee here- a well done coffee porter.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Draft at the source, served in a sampler. Pours a deep, opaque brown, with a small, creamy tan head. The aroma is a big blast of fresh roasted coffee, roasty throughout, with some nuts and burnt sugar. The flavor follows the same lines; mostly just rich, roasty, fresh coffee. Medium-bodied, with a dry, smooth mouthfeel and moderate carbonation. Excellent coffee stout. My favorite Fifty West beer to date.

3.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Tap. Poured black color with an average to large frothy brown head that was mostly lasting and produced excellent lacing. Moderate to heavy roast mat and dark coffee aroma. Medium to full body with a smooth texture and flat carbonation. Medium roasted bittersweet flavor with a medium roasted bittersweet finish of moderate duration. Good beer.
