The first bottling of the 2008 vintage came from one barrel... A Pappy Van Winkle barrel that held Bourbon for 23 years. We have 7 more of these barrels ranging in age from 17 to 23 years. The next bottling is a blend of three of these barrels. The blend which will be marked ’2nd bottling’ or something to that effect so they can be identified. The remaining 4 barrels will be split into draft and yet a third bottling. The 2009 Eclipse will be aging longer than the 2008. The 2008 aged for 180 days and the 4 remaining barrels are most likely going to hit 225 days. We are brewing the base Imperial Stout in March allowing us even further aging time prior to it’s mid-December release... The amount produced will increase from 17bbls to 34bbls for ’09.

Several different releases including unwaxed, "Brewers Reserve", Pinkish Wax. Available starting Late Fall 2008.

Batch # 2 unwaxed from 2008. Pours a thick dark, dark brown. Smell is lots of bourbon, coffee, and roasted malt. Taste is much more subtle and subdued with bourbon. Sweet, mildly roasty and low carbonation. Finishes smooth and chocolaty.

Poured from a pink wax, batch 3 2008 bottle. Aroma is sweet with caramel, honey and dark chocolate. Dark fruit notes with raisin, berry notes. Light roast with a hint of a pepper character. Pours black with a small, dark mocha head. Light lacing and medium legs. Flavor is moderately sweet with quite a bit of chocolate. Some light roast notes. Light honey and caramel. Medium light dark fruit notes with some raisin and cherry. Medium low bitterness. Light oxidation. Mouthfeel is medium full bodied with low carbonation. Low astringency and low alcohol warmth. Overall, better than I was expecting with a lot less oxidation. Some nice dark fruit and sweet malt notes.

Bottle @ CBS on 4/14/15. Pours black with minimal tan head that dissipates quickly. Aroma of chocolate, vanilla, molasses, roasted malt and bourbon. Medium mouthfeel. Taste of bourbon, molasses, roasted malt, chocolate with some hints of oak and vanilla. Definitely one of the best Eclipses. Tough to tell if it’s declined a little with age, as others have suggested.

"based on how amazing this year’s grand cru and elijah craig 18 are, and how much i like pappy, i think this has faded over the last three years. that said, still pretty damn good. aroma heavy on chocolate, coffee, and bourbon. flavor has a bit of dark fruit and vanilla in there as well. juuuust a bid muddled, comparatively, to the best of the 2011 batch. wish i’d have had this is 2009, but whadya gonna do?"

Poured dark black with aromas of bourbon, light vanilla, some earth, light chocolate and some oak. Flavors are the same light oxidation and burning alcohol sensation in the aftertaste.

Bottle generously shared by barkeeps at Capitol Beer & Tap Room. Pours near black with a transient tan head and a lovely treacle and bourbon aroma. There is a hearty dark molasses flavor with a very tasty Pappy finish. So far my favorite version of Eclipse. Thanks Aaron!

Shared bomner at Craft from the Queen of Beers. Pours jet black, oily, thick,, with minimal head to speak of. Nose is oaky bourbon, vanilla, cacao, molasses. Tastes oaky bourbony, with a pronounced cacao, vanilla, raisin, and a hefty complex mouthfeel.

Shared mini growler at craft, thanks Janet. Pours pi check black, no head, dead looking monster of a pour. The aroma has a huge milk chocolate, medium roast, sweet bourbon. The taste has a big vanilla, sweet milk chocolate, more chocolate, just beautiful. Unreal
