Very smooth. Pours a black color. Medium aroma. Quite viscous. Not quite as spicy as the Four Roses but a touch better than the Rittenhouse. Well balanced. Not hot at all.

3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 JohnnyJ (3044) - San Diego, California, USA - MAY 8, 2012
Bottle at Stone Oakquinox 2012. Black pour, thin dark tan head. Chocolate, bourbon, molasses, raisin, sugary, and some vanilla. Not as smooth and less vanilla than the 18 year.

Huge thanks to my friend Brent for this 2011 bomber. Poured into sniffer. Notable carbonation, but thin khaki head on a dark brown, mostly opaque body. Smells like heaven. Dark chocolate, salted caramel, coconut, lavender, and well aged bourbon. Tastes like adult candy. Dry sweet honey is quite prominent. Bitter chocolate, roasted coffee, strong bourbon and booze. Quite drinkable and really enjoyable. Want to try the others and have the bourbon available for comparison!

Tasting at Gourmet Haus during SF Beer Week. Out of a snifter. Amazing bourbon aroma jumps out of the glass inviting one to rush to taste this. This drink is to be savored. Taste picks up some cola hints, which are interesting.

Bomber graciously shared by BigSound. Cheers, Henri! Pours a wonderful stout brown with a tan head. Nose is bourbon, sweet molasses, brown sugar, wood, vanilla, rum-soaked raisins, and some milk chocolate. Flavor is similar with very sweet, very chocolate and molasses flavors throughout. This one is balanced more toward the barrel, but still really nice as the stout dances back with notes of chocolate and cafe con leche. Very enjoyable.
4.2 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 pari6819 (54) - Florida, USA - MAR 28, 2012
Vanilla in the nose. Raisin. molasses and cream with a nice sweetness to it. Bourbon notes are wonderful in this and are balanced very well. Loved the chocolate nuances that crept in the finish.

Bottle shared by STL crew. Pour is black like the others with thin tan head. Aroma and flavor are light chocolate malt, light roasted malt, faint brown sugar, and lightly sweet with notes of molasses and sweet toffee malt in the finish. Faint EtOH at the end, but light and overshadowed by the sweet malt. I liked this one a lot.
3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 KickInChalice (772) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - MAR 1, 2012
From notes. First reviewed 2/23/2011. Poured from a 22 oz. bottle into a tasting glass.
This pours a dark brown with walnut edges. A small brown head forms initially but fades rather quickly and leaves no lace.
The delicious aroma of Elijah Craig hits me first, with molasses, vanilla, and oak coming next. Chocolate and a bit of coffee add to the wonderful aroma.
The EC takes a minute to really hit my taste buds. Dark roasted malt blends well with a decadent dark chocolate and a bit of coffee flavor. Then a vanilla and molasses sweetness introduce the bourbon flavor. A bit of woody oak, a touch of smoke, and then the finish is lightly sweet and more bourbon. Delicious.
This is full bodied with an appropriate level of carbonation. Somewhat creamy, but also a bit dry. Bourbon has the typical warming effect.
Getting to try this was a treat. The beer performed as well, meeting my expectations. Another success for barrel aged stouts.
4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 alpar (154) - Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA - FEB 14, 2012
Very similar to the 18 but just not as much depth/taste. Still has some vanilla and oak but just doesn’t live up to its bigger brother. Loved the viscosity and the sweetness. Nose is also roast, vanilla, char, bourbon. Very nice brew and definitely worth seeking out.
