4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 16/20
Sampled from a 0.65l bottle @ Top Hops (BA) bottle share. Itís really deep dark brown and quite near black black in the glass this one. The head is low soft dark brown. It has one of those honey noses this with lots of dark fudge sweet- and roastiness. Really as smooth as they come in the mouth with a near cloudy oily mouthfeel. The taste is straight up strong and powerful wit stingy booze, black dark roasted malts and wood. A deep rye burned bread thing in the aftertaste and chocolate also found. Lovely stuff! Could easily have this again! 15.06.2013

This is the 2012 Rittenhouse Rye barrel-aged version. Pours a dark, nearly opaque brown with a two-finger caramel colored head. Aromas of chocolate covered raisins and coffee. Moderately thick mouthfeel with a competing slickness and mild carbonation sting. Wow, the flavor is interesting given my experience with Elijah Craig Eclipse. Chocolate covered raisins, tobacco, rye bitterness, and soft woody flavors. The tobacco and bitterness cuts the sweetness noted in the Elijah Craig version.

JCB family bottle, w00t! 2009 version of this beauty and it had aged to silken glory. Motor oil pour but nothing sludgy or weighty about it, just lustrous and thick. Potent beige head leaves gnarly lacing. Nose is really fine, deeply mellowed barrel and loads of chocolate. Some roasty sharpness in there a bit. Really fine mouthfeel. Taste is deep, sweet from the rich chocolate and mellow booze. The honey tends to get just a scootch lost in the barrel, I think, but this was a dilly of an imperial stout.

4.2 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Black, thin mocha lacing. Sweet chocolate, bourbon, caramel, hints of vanilla, a little vinous character, and damp oak. Bittersweet, some port flavor in the back, and fairly malty. Smooth, full bodied, and the right amount of carbonation. A bit boozy, lingers a little in the finish.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Another good brew from FiftyFifty. Aroma was very soft at first. Light coconut notes, butterscotch, caramel, vanilla, whiskey, light alcohol notes. Pour is black with a thin tan head. Nice lacing. Flavor is, again, coconut, vanilla, caramel, a roasty finish, and light whiskey. Not bad at all.

Thanks to Beer Savant for sharing 2012, 2011, 2010 and 2009 vintage bottles (as Rittenhouse Rye and Heaven Hill Rye) during his 50th birthday bash. Brownish-black pour with a medium foamy beige head that recedes steadily to an outer ring. Short strings of lacing. Aroma of oaky vanilla, roast malt and chocolate. Full-bodied with varying degrees of spicy rye and booze amongst the vintages. Notes of coconut and coffee plus vanilla. The finish is oaky spiced bourbon and chocolate. Good beer all around.

4.3 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 18/20
Bottle @ The Lost Tasting Of Abbey Beers, late edition, Odense 2013. Black with a lasting tan head. Big aroma of roasted malt, dark chocolate, licorice, ink, ash and alcohol. Sweet and full bodied flavour with chocolate, roasted malt, licorice, vanilla, bourbon, charcoal and vinous alcohol. Great balance and intensity for a Super strong and sweet black beer
