COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This entry serves as the core listing for all Imperial Eclipse Stout vintages aged in rye barrels. These include:

2011 Vintage:
Rittenhouse Rye Version. (GREEN WAX w/ "2011")

2010 Vintage:
Rittenhouse Rye version. (GREEN WAX with "2010")

2009 Vintage:
Heaven Hill Rye version. (GREEN WAX with "2009")

Original batch was just 2009 Rye barrels sourced from Heaven Hill. For the 2010 release, Todd delved deeper with the barrel provider and found his barrels (and previous barrels) to all be Rittenhouse barrels. Hence, the alias.

Black, thin mocha lacing. Sweet chocolate, bourbon, caramel, hints of vanilla, a little vinous character, and damp oak. Bittersweet, some port flavor in the back, and fairly malty. Smooth, full bodied, and the right amount of carbonation. A bit boozy, lingers a little in the finish.

Another good brew from FiftyFifty. Aroma was very soft at first. Light coconut notes, butterscotch, caramel, vanilla, whiskey, light alcohol notes. Pour is black with a thin tan head. Nice lacing. Flavor is, again, coconut, vanilla, caramel, a roasty finish, and light whiskey. Not bad at all.

Thanks to Beer Savant for sharing 2012, 2011, 2010 and 2009 vintage bottles (as Rittenhouse Rye and Heaven Hill Rye) during his 50th birthday bash. Brownish-black pour with a medium foamy beige head that recedes steadily to an outer ring. Short strings of lacing. Aroma of oaky vanilla, roast malt and chocolate. Full-bodied with varying degrees of spicy rye and booze amongst the vintages. Notes of coconut and coffee plus vanilla. The finish is oaky spiced bourbon and chocolate. Good beer all around.

pours deep brown with a medium tan head. aroma has vanilla and caramel notes...light whiskey...roasty and slightly sweet...dessert. flavor is more roasty...notable whiskey and a touch of wood...vanilla, toasted coconut, and coffee. mouthfeel is medium and the finish is whiskey/coffee/dark fruit and warming...lingers.

Bottle @ The Lost Tasting Of Abbey Beers, late edition, Odense 2013. Black with a lasting tan head. Big aroma of roasted malt, dark chocolate, licorice, ink, ash and alcohol. Sweet and full bodied flavour with chocolate, roasted malt, licorice, vanilla, bourbon, charcoal and vinous alcohol. Great balance and intensity for a Super strong and sweet black beer

In short: A big stout with intense barrels, highly roasted, a bit chocolaty, some booze. A straightforward example of the style.
How: Bottle 22oz, 2010 vintage, aged 2 years. I think I got this one in a trade or what, thanks… dude!
The look: Black body topped by a very small tan head.
In long: Nose is an intensely barrels, strong coconut sensation, roast. Taste is charred cereals, burnt almonds, dry chocolate chips cookies, lots of wood, raisin cookies. A bit too much alcohol presence although 10% really isn’t that much for a beer like this. Sweetness sensation is medium at most which is nice. Easier to drink than I expected, not saying it is a session beer but a 22oz was actually quite easy to drink. Even if easier to drink than expected, I liked the beer but I didn’t love it. A bit too straightforward, no complexity here, just a big highly roasted stout with a whole lot of barrels. A good beer lost is a sea of similar beers. A good beer but these FiftyFifty Eclipse are overpriced, I paid too much money for this bottle just because it is limited in quantity and has a nice wax job, and if you think I’m gonna fall for that gimmick again you’re probably right.

Bottle share by Jared, aroma of barrel, dark fruit and a bit of booze burn. Taste is a bit of light chocolate and dark fruit, little burn in the taste, pretty good, prefer Elijah. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

A - Dark black with a touch of brown and a finger of frothy khaki-chocolate head. Fades normal. S - Chocolate and dark caramel malts, molasses, Bourbon, vanilla, oak, rye, black licorice, dark cocoa, coffee, booze. T - Sweet chocolate and caramel malts, Bourbon, vanilla, oak, spicy rye, molasses, coffee, black licorice, bitter dark cocoa, touch of dark fruit, and some booze. M - Full bodied with moderate carbonation. Smooth and a bit syrupy with a warming, sweet, and lightly spicy finish. D - Great barrel aged stout. The rye bourbon comes through really nicely.
