Black with a small dense brown head. Aroma is bourbon, oak, pear, slightly spice, coffee, toffee, I get some phenolic/plastic hints as well. Taste is light to medium sweet, medium bitter roasted with some warming alcohol. Finish is slightly sharp bitter and boozy. Medium bodied, soft carbonation, a bit sharper than Evan Williams 23 that we had side by side, the slight plastic notes disturbs as well.

Bottled, thanks hackobock! (2014) Black, small beige head. Pear, licorice and coffee up front. Mid sweet with full body and clean, rounded mouthfeel. Pear, coffee, licorice. Some syrup and bread. Warming finish.

Rye evident coffee comes out with the rye character. Pour with small tan head and decent carbonation that did not destroy aromas. Some roasted badly bitterness finished it off.

Black. Biege frothy head. Roasted malty nose with some whiskey notes. medium body with a coffelike toasted grain and sweet molasses note. Tinge of dark chocolate too. Ends with a dry roasted espresso bitter that turns to syrupy roundness that coats the lips like a lollipop. Big brew.

Pitch black, small head. Smokey molasses coffee bean nose. Juniper berries, espresso taste . Building up in bitterness. Thin bodied.

Aroma of big bourbon, chocolate, oak, spice, toffee, dry coffee, roasted malt and earth. Appears pure black with little lace and a thin foam rim. Taste brings strong chocolate, dark malts, roasted malts, oak, dry coffee, dry espresso bean, dry malty roast, rich chocolate, dark cocoa nibs and big fanny may chocolate cocoa overtones. Subtle bourbon and oak notes yet, very dry. Overall, another nice Eclipse, this one is very very dry and dark chocolate forward. Bourbon doesn’t shine through as much as others. A rating.

650ml waxed top bottle (2014 Edition, 11.9%ABV) pours a deep black color with a small light brown head that leaves some decent lacing on the glass. Aroma is roasted grains, chocolate and bourbon. Taste is a chocolate malty sweetness with a roasted grain and hop bitterness with bourbon throughout and alcohol. Medium bodied with mild carbonation. Quite a nicely balanced brew with only a slightly pronounced bourbon presence. Recommended.

Pours thick unclear black coffee with a dark cocoa caramel very small head. Aroma brings light wafer like barrel wood, not loving it. Flavor brings creamy sweeter caramel and smooth toasty malts, easy and the cream is light.

2012 version. Dark brown/black with a beige head. Aroma is rye whiskey, fruitcake, caramel, chocolate, spice. Full bodied, creamy mouthfeel, smooth and lightly spicy on the palate with a lightly spicy and boozy finish. Taste is vanilla, chocolate, fruitcake, spice, caramel, hint of chocolate.
