COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This entry serves as the core listing for all Imperial Eclipse Stout vintages aged in rye barrels. These include:

2011 Vintage:
Rittenhouse Rye Version. (GREEEN WAX w/ "2011")

2010 Vintage:
Rittenhouse Rye version. (GREEN WAX with "2010")

2009 Vintage:
Heaven Hill Rye version. (GREEN WAX with "2009")

Original batch was just 2009 Rye barrels sourced from Heaven Hill. For the 2010 release, Todd delved deeper with the barrel provider and found his barrels (and previous barrels) to all be Rittenhouse barrels. Hence, the alias.

Pours a flat dark brown, no head to speak about. Nose was chocolaty, brownie-like with background fumes of spicy bourbon/rye. Flavors are sweet, chocolaty with notes of the spicy rye coming through in nice ways. Nice and warming...with some sweetness in the middle and a boozy finish. Chocolaty at most times...hopping seems aggressive enough to balance everything while still not producing any distracting bitterness. Dug this more than the Elijah Craig version.

The more I tried this the less I liked it. Muddled, overly sweet, raw wood, sticky and lacking character. One of the bigger dissapointments in a while. The only real flavor i got was sweet wood. The texture was oily sticky and unappealing. Pass.

Great rye whiskey aroma. Flavor is whiskey, heavy roasted malts and a strong bitter finish. Great stuff

2011 green wax boTtle pours pitch black with a thick tan head with amazing retention. Armas are booze, spicy rye, chocolate and roared malt. Tastes are chocolate, roasted malt, vanilla, oak, and rye whiskey. A really nice whiskey flavor prevails, but the beer is not hot. Drink at cellar temp up to 60 degrees to really get the depth of ths beer. Wonderful.

Out of the bottle at Gourmet Haus during a tasting of all 8 2011 Eclipse series. Lots of cherry to mix with the cocoa and coffee. Brownish-black with taupe head. Cherry comes through on the flavor as well, with a full mouthfeel and well structured beer.

65cl, at 9.5%Vol, Vintage 2011 (with green wax), Bottle N° 76, exclusive American brew, with honey, thx to Secret Santa!, very complex Stout, roasted/woody and slightly alcoholic/spicy, heavy, yet balanced, hazy, good head, very good Winter brew, yet very expensive!

2010 bottle (Rittenhouse Rye bottle number 337)shared by some kind soul at RBWG tasting. Pours a dark brown color with a medium sized off white head. The aroma has less barrel than the other versions, good amount of roasted malt and dark fruit, spicy rye whiskey. The flavor has more bite to it than others with the roasted malts, dark fruits, chocolate and spicy rye notes but still very smooth and tasty.

dark brown with frothy cream head, light lacing. I’m in "Heaven".. Nose of sour milk and grain, toast and bark. Impossible this is just palate fatigue, like a black hole of taste. Where is whiskey, where is balance? Under attenuated nonsense this is, liver punishment in fact. Sugar profile, stinging throat, seriously like opening a bag of domino sugar and pouring it down my throat. Bit of toasty roast in end. Wow. Final of all four.. Thank god!

651mL green wax thanks to craftycarl21 and oteyj. Pours a deep, near black with a medium, thick, tan head. Big retention, fairly sheen. Nose is spicy, dark fruits, spicy tawny, subtle complexities. Taste is richer, tangy, sweet, heavy maple syrup. Nice stuff. On the sweet side but definitely enjoyable.

This beer is the same as all the other treatments. Muddled, sugary, and nasty. The palate is also sticky with a sweet finish. Poorly done.

Bottle shared by craftycarl. Pours opaque with a small, fizzy light tan head, short retention with good lacing. Aroma is booze and whiskey, oak, licorice and dark fruity esters with spicy hops. Flavor is malt dominant, whiskey and spicy rye, oak, dark fruity esters and a sweet finish. Full body, medium warmth and carbonation.
