4.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
Bottle from Marco - thanks! Black pour with a small tan head that hangs in there. Aroma is light, sweet bourbon with vanilla, oak, and underlying chocolate with some alcohol spice into the finish. Taste is sweet bourbon up front with vanilla and a somewhat hot alcohol note followed by molasses, chocolate roast, and some nice darker fruit notes that contrast with the spice from the alcohol. Mouthfeel is even and coating. This presents as a bit rougher and hotter than the elijah 18 I had but I like it and perhaps a bit more as I seem to get more of the base beer. Good beer.

Bottled. Pours pitch black with a small head. Aroma of roasted malt, bourbon, toffee, vanilla and chocolate. Sweet flavor that ends up more dry and with bitter notes. Medium to full bodied, oily texture and soft carbonation. A very nice Impy indeed.

3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
2014 bottle from Blackwells in SF, CA. Nose is lightly boozy with a moderate vegetal character. slightly like oranges mixed with leftovers from the crisper drawer. Taste is better. Driven by booze, alcohol, and not much else. Lacks chocolate, coffee, roast, complexity. More of a general boost than any stout character. Fairly thin bodied with a significant alcohol warming to the point of being hot and fusel. While I am a sucker for this kind of beer, this is not well balanced and could use a more viscous mouthfeel, more body, and less hot alcohol

Bottle. Nearly black pour with a beige head. Aroma is boozy chocolate with some bourbon and caramel. Flavour is lots of caramel, some chocolate and a bit of a bourbon edge. A touch boozy but not overly so. Really nice and balanced, quite delicious.

4.3 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Pours a solid black with a tan head. Smells of sweet bourbon and black cherries. Bourbon flavoring is prominent with slight vanilla extract taste and a nice booziness. Finishes with warmth in my mouth and throat. Very nice BBA Stout.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 18/20
2014 bottle poured into a tulip glass. Black pour with a small tan head that quickly dissipates to slight lacing. Nose is bourbon and charred oak, taste is very smooth with the alcohol being well hidden. A little disappointed in this one compared to the other variations I’ve tried...but still a great BA stout.
