Another excellent Totality. Love the spice and nuance. Not a hammer like other barrel aged stouts. Lovely whiskey aroma. My favorite of three Eclipse’s sampled.

2010 bottle. Standard black pour, small brown head. Lots of dark brown sugars, dark fruit, raisin, bourbon, a little woody, and dark chocolate. A good BA imp stout, although there are better and cheaper options. Also not the best eclipse. More on the sugary, dark fruit side, with definite barrel character.

2011 bottle...pours dark brown with ruby hues and a thick mocha head...nice lacing and retention. Aroma is mild but has light roastiness and subdued bourbon...mildly boozy...vanilla is faint. Flavor is notably bourbony but not too hot...coffee and dark chocolate notes...a bit of dark fruits. Mouthfeel is full and creamy...finish is warming with dark fruit and lt bitter espresso...bourbony.

Out of the bottle at Gourmet Haus during a tasting of all 8 2011 Eclipse series. A surprisingly subdued aroma when compared to the others. Same deep color but with cherry red highlights. Very full mouthfeel with nice texture and great full flavor of coffee and chocolate.

Bottle split with Pat, Dallas, Vin, Tom, and Tony; courtesy of Vin. This massive beer pours a deep brown body with smal brown head. Aroma is hot, booze burn, bourbon, chocolate, sugar and wood. Mouthfeel confirms the alcohol with a nice warming burn; notes of bitter chocolate, oak, molasses, toffee, and espresso.

Bottle with friends, pours a dark brown with small beige head. Aromas and taste of toffee, apples, sweet bourbon, milk chocolate, very sugary, some wood hidden towards the end. Warming as hell.

Pour out of bottle, 2011 version, big thanks to Josh for the pour. Murky black pour with thin tan head, aroma brought nice big dark and milk chocolate, vanilla, hints of coconut, molasses and some bourbon notes, touch of dark fruits in there but its mainly dark chocolate, espresso roast forward, nice smelling. Taste is very nice and smooth, sweet molasses, toffee, and caramel notes, touch of dark fruits move into dark chocolate and espresso bean, vanilla and coconut and some slight woody notes come into the bourbon, pretty subtle bourbon but it works well, finishes fairly sweet but dries out and leaves you wanting more,

22oz bottle, bottle 1385/2011. Pours dark brown / black with a bit creamy tan head that retains well and laces the glass.

The aroma is oaty chocolate malts with some dark fruit, black licorice and light bourbon. There’s some alcohol as well. It’s a bit more subdued than expected.

The flavor is sweet sugary (honey?) chocolate malts and dark fruits and some grain that leads to a bitter warming alcohol finish. The mouthfeel is full bodied with smooth carbonation.

Overall, some harsh boozy bitterness early on, but it mellows and becomes pretty well balanced. As it warms up all the way, it becomes a bit boozy again.

22oz bomber pour courtesy of cmillward or popery, can’t remember which one, thanks guys. It pours mahogany with dark amber edges and tan head. The aroma has some yummy toffee notes, malt balls, some chocolate and then running into booziness and dark roasted malts at the end of the draw. The taste starts with dark roasted malts, some chocolate malts, a bit of boozy whiskey and then some yummy molasses covered oak toward the finish. This attains a pleasing balance between barrel notes and yummy beer flavors.
