Imperial Eclipse Stout aged in Brandy Barrels.

Original Release Info: 2010 Imperial Eclipse Stout aged in Hiram Walker>Christian Bros Brandy barrels (3 turns). This is one of four versions for 2010. Fairly oak neutral with some brandy notes. Added French oak spiral to each barrel. Estimated bottle count 350-400. Subject to change.

Bottle shared by alexsdad06. Poured a black color with an average frothy brown head that diminished slowly with excellent lacing. Moderate to heavy toasted chocolate, earthy coffee and sweet alcohol aroma. Medium to heavy toasted chocolate malt and brandy sweet flavor with a medium to heavy dark sweet and small alcohol bite finish of moderate to long duration. Medium to full body with a dry smooth texture and flat carbonation. This is another complex standout beer.

22 oz bottle shared with Tmoney99. Pours dark brown to black in color with a medium sized beige head. The aroma and flavor have roasted malt, chocolate, fudge, hints of coffee, brandy, a good amount of wood, tannins, almost grape/vinous to the finish, very solid version that has held up well.

2011 bottle. Dark pour with tan head. Brandy, roasted, Fudgy chocolate aromas. Flavors are Fudgy, chocolate, Brandy and oak, nice.

22, capped and waxed. Thanks, S! Pours a matte jet black with a loose thin burnt tan head that goes away. Big earthy sweet nose, a little boozy, showing roasty dark malts, vanilla, tart blackberry sweetness in the back, caramel. Dense heavy body, minimal carb. Earthy, roasty, chocolatey mid palate, showing berry sweetness and caramel. Lingering finish.

Pours black, good white head. Smell is sharp, bit warm boozyness, as well as a oaky note. Taste is nice, complex and deep. Roasted malts, perfumy,atypical brandy. Not less good though ! rather sweet, very very soft, grainy, a bit boozy. Very nice MF and carbo. Full on,very fruity aftertaste.

Bottle @ FiftyFifty Eclipse Charity Tasting. 2010 vintage. Opaque black color, small off-white to beige head. Aroma is malts, clearly brandy, typical brandy sort or sweetness in the aroma. Taste malts, brandy, slight hint of green apple peel, light apple peel slight tart sort of bitterness. Medium to full body, medium carbonation.

Bomber @ FiftyFifty Charity Tasting: Vintage 2010: Served in a taster: Black body with a beige lacing. Aroma is brandy, light port, brown sugars, light soy, hint of alcohol, light earthy, light light manure... Flavour is bitter, wood, brandy, roast, light rubber, light pudding, some vanilla, light vinous... Aftertaste is roastt, brandy/port, soy/brown sugars, light roast and light bitter... Low carbo, light creamy mouthfeel, close to full bodied.

UPDATED: NOV 28, 2015 Poured from a 2010 bottle. Aroma has moderate chocolate notes with some lighter roast character. Some light tobacco and leather. Light oak notes with a some medium light sherry notes. Some faint umami, soy sauce notes. Medium dark fruit notes with grapes, plums, prunes and dates. Light brandy notes. Pours black with some dark brown hues on the edges with almost no head at all, just some thin, sparse, oily, dark brown bubbles. No lacing and moderate legs. Flavor has a medium light sweetness with a moderate amount of chocolate. Light roast, tobacco and leather. Medium light sherry notes wiht light cardboard and umami notes of oxidation. Moderate dark fruit notes of berry, plum, prune and date. Some light brandy notes and faint oak. Mouthfeel is medium to medium full bodied with almost no carbonation. Low astringency and low alcohol warmth. Overall, a flat and oxidized eclipse. Lots of dark fruit and chocolate, but only a little brandy and oak. Oxidation doesn?t work great with the brandy notes. This might be my least favorite eclipse to date. 2011 bottle has nice carb and way less oxidation. Nice brandy notes, good chocolate and roast with light dark fruit. Way better mouthfeel. 2010 bottle gets a 3.5, but 2011 gets a 3.9.

Bottle # 1446, 2011 vintage. Pours a dark chestnut brown color that appears pitch black in the glass with a one finger beige head that quickly settles into a thick, lasting ring. Spotty lacing left behind. Roasted, smoked malt aroma with a decent barrel presence that seems to be nicely integrated into the base beer. There’s some toasted oak, vanilla and coconut but the spirit/brandy is much tamer here than in the other treatments. Some boozy brandy sweetness but there’s room for the strong malt presence to shine. Pretty robust smelling with smokey charcoal along with roasted coffee bean, oatmeal, toast and dark chocolate. Decently balanced but the brandy presence could be a touch stronger for me. Full bodied with a stronger barrel presence than I anticipated. Sweet brandy and vinous dark fruit notes along with dry, toasted oak and vanilla. Still, it’s nicely integrated into the flavors of the base beer and doesn’t overpower the roasted dark malt flavors. The oak compliments the robust malt and the brandy sweetness counters hints of burnt toast, espresso, oatmeal and chocolate cake. Really well balanced and the ABV is excellently masked, with little to no heat.
