Bottle @ THE Eclipse Tasting. Purple waxed bottle #1548. Cheers to Ken! The pourís deep brown with a medium white head. The nose is toasted brown bread, hints of boozy wood and chocolate. Soft roasted espresso bean. The taste is sweet caramel eclair, some chocolate cake. This gives over to more earthy, roasted coffee flavors. Mild wood and bourbon. The bodyís fat and oily. Overall, a pretty excellent imperial stout. The sweet flavors arenít overstated. Nice.

boxofrane (2206) - Spring City, Pennsylvania, USA - OCT 23, 2012
Bottle at craft ale house. Pours pitch black with a small white head. The aroma has some chocolate and some of the oaky brandy notes. The taste is mostly chocolate with some brandy barrel woodiness on the finish. Solid brew.

Treebs (872) - , Illinois, USA - OCT 20, 2012
2011 vintage, bottle # 3138. Burgundy wax. 22 oz. bottle served in a Firestone Walker tulip. A: Pours a dark black body with dark brown edges. A one finger height of tan head forms on the pour and slowly recedes to a thin cap. Sticky sheets of lace down the glass. S: Sweet brandy on the nose with nice unsweetened chocolate. Toasted grains. Raw oak and some subtle dark fruits. T: The taste is much more oaky than nose. The brandy is there, but seems a little disjointed from the base beer. The finish is sweeter with some chocolate and roasted malts, but it seems like the beer is in two parts. M: Medium bodied with a slight chew. The alcohol is slightly overbearing, even at 9.5%. Not really well hidden. The finish is a little astringent. O: The taste was a little disjointed and the alcohol was a little too prevalent. Not the best of the Eclipse series. Would pass over this in the future. Serving type: bottle Reviewed on: 07-08-2012

Bottle. Dark brown pour, slightly red, with a small light tan head. Molasses, brandy, oak, prune, dark candy sugar, and notes of chocolate. Meh, ok. Many other imperial stouts I like better for cheaper and more available.

Bottle shared at Dallas & Annís Housewarming with Pat, Bobby, Zahra and Ahmil. Pours a pitch ink black body with light lacing. Aroma is wood, light roast, chocolate, and alcohol heat. Mouthfeel is medium to thin with notes of chocolate, booze, oak, sweet brandy, a touch cloying.

Bottle at Bevolution party at Craft Beer Base. Woody, smoky nose, molasses, vanilla, light fruit and spice. Dark brown with lace. Sweet flavor of molasses, vanilla, honey, wood, spice, dried fruit, brandy. Refined and elegant, and much nicer than many a over-the-top bourbon barrel stout.

Bottle courtesy of James. Split with Pat, James, and Bobby. Pitch inky black pour with no head. Aroma is heavy booze. Taste is just like the nose. The body/mouthfeel is a little thin and the booze can become a bit overpowering rather than complimentary. Would love to try the other barrels.

A-- Dark cola and settled black. Just touches of ruby at the base and at the collar. Original head was two fingers of a slightly orange mocha colored head. Fell to just above film through drinking. Good head retention and lots of lines and spotty lacing on the sides of the glass. S-- Soft at first and quickly sped up. Brandy, green apple, cherry, oak, vanilla, molasses and plumb. More fruit driven at first and then changed to more of the darker fruits and barrel characters as got more air. T-- Mirrors the smell a lot. A lot of brandy through each sip but more and more a lot of molasses, oak, coffee and brandy. Early on were cherry and apple notes. Slight amounts of hoppiness to this early on but after a few sips and air the barrel notes took over. M-- Thin body and dominated by the barrel. Lots of molasses and plumb. Slightly slick and oily but finishes pretty clean and a big brandy finish with molasses, cherry, oak, chocolate and vanilla. Medium carbonation and lighter body for the ABV. O-- ABV is well hidden through drinking until the end and it creeps up on you in a big way. For a rather thin body the barrel does a lot for the beer. Lots of flavors in this and pretty easy to drink. Solid, solid beer and worth seeking out. Just give it time to breathe.
