Like the other variants, black in color with minimal head formation. Lots of roasted malt and almost a mild char. Quite a bit of vanilla and whiskey. A fair amount of booze but some nice chocolate and molasses. The flavor is a bit heavier on the roast and char than some of the other varieties. Not all that much sweet malt flavor or spirit. Some whiskey and booze with moderate vanilla notes on the palate. Good, but not the best from the series.

Bottle at THE Eclipse Tasting, London. Bottle #976, copper wax. Pours clear, dark brown with a frothy beige head. Big, rich dark chocolate nose with plenty of complementing dark sugars, some alcohol presence. Big sweet flavor with a robust alcohol base, some torched wood, dry chocolate, brown sugar. Full bodied with fine carbonation and a moderately oily mouthfeel. Warm finish with lots of chocolate, a bit of alcohol, dirt, good roast, modest earth, brown sugar. Great stuff, very rich and well rounded. One of the best Eclipse editions of the evening.

Bottle shared by alexsdad06. Poured black color with a moderate frothy light brown head that mostly lasted with good lacing. Medium to heavy toasted chocolate, wood, dark sweet and small alcohol aroma. Medium to full body with a smooth texture and flat carbonation. Medium to heavy wood and sweet malt flavor with a medium to heavy sweet finish of moderate to long duration. This is a standout beer.

UPDATED: OCT 28, 2012 Bottle with Steve and the Foco BA crew (and again at Armin’s bachelor party). Deep brown appearance with a small, bubbly tan head. Slightly sharp whiskey, toffee, caramel, dark chocolate malty aroma. Fairly big whiskey, somewhat boozy, very rich caramel and toffee flavor with lots of chocolate, but quite smooth. One of my favorites of the series.
