Bottle from Healthy Spirits SF, bought in February 2015. (24.99 USD) A bit hazy orange/amber with a small head. Nice aroma of toffee, dried fruit, light hops and some oak. Similar taste. Quite sweet and with warming alcohol. The finish was quite bitter. A tasty beer.

@ Gyllenbock 15-6-6: stor tydlig doft av toffekola, torkat frukt och söta fattoner. Smaken är underbar komplex och värm även om den kanske är lite rå. Underbar barley wine. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone ---- Soberness not garanteed!

Appearance is odd with a thick cream-colored, slow to settle head, some sticky lace, and part hazy - part cloudy honey amber color. Aroma is caramel malt, hop, bit or whiskey. Flavor is hugely sweet at first, long bitter finish. Light carbonation and lots of alcohol warmth. A bit heavy handed for me.

Taster pour at Sam Fest Barleywine Festival (2015). Citrus hazy orange pour with a citrus nose and taste. Slight rind bitterness, no heat. None of the soapiness that others seem to find from bottle pours.

Bottle. Orange color with white head. Soapy hop aroma. Taste follows weird soap taste.

Bottle to snifter. Nose is woody with hints of vanilla. Strong malt sweetness in the nose as well. Pour is a hazy, murky, reddish Orange with a very small white head. Taste is chewy sweet at first, then the alcohol hits and it’s enough to make the hairs on my arm stand straight up. Finished with a grainy, woody, almost drying character. Second sip goes down much smoother now knowing what to expect, but there is just no way to hide that alcohol. The wood adds a nice vanilla smoothness to it, almost cakey character to it. Slightly crusty, in a good way. Overall very good but would like it toned down a tad.

Poured an ugly orange brown center with light muddy edges and a smaller foamy white head. Aroma is damn solid, woody, light burnt honey, dry fruit, hiney topped bread, molasses, very slight hint of alcohol. Medium body, softer carbonation and some decent heat to slow you down on this big boy. Flavor of caramel and molassess, dry wood, alcohol, honey topped grains, hint of watered down scotch. Put this in the like column.
