Tasting at Bruce’s pad. Almost clear dark brown beer, little pale tan head. Palate is smooth and fresh with a mild fine carbonation. Bourbon biscuits in the malt. Light bourbon (the real stuff!), smooth with a touch of oaky vanilla. Whisper of cherry. Smooth finish. Lovely!

Bottle. Poured clear dark brown with a moderate frothy brown head that mostly lasted with fair lacing. Moderate to heavy toasted, woody, vanilla and caramel with a small alcohol aroma. Medium to full body with a smooth texture and flat carbonation. Medium to heavy complex sweet flavor with a medium to heavy sweet finish of moderate to long duration. This is a standout beer.

brokensail (9944) - Orange County, California, USA - JUN 18, 2012
Dark brown in color with a thin tan head. An interesting nose. Lots of cocoa powder, vanilla, roasted malt, whiskey, and oak. A touch of coffee and a light chalkiness to it. The flavor has a good roasted malt, dark fruit, chocolate, and whiskey character, but the chalkiness is still there. Good, but not great.

Bottle shared at Bruce’s in London during Jack’s farewell tasting. Thanks to Bruce. Pours deep brown with a thick, creamy yellow-beige head. Toasty bread on the nose, some burnt pine, hints of raisins. Medium to big sweet flavor, plenty of dried dark fruits, brown sugar, raisins, plums, mild chocolate, toasty toffee. Full bodied with fine, creamy carbonation. Sweet finish with sturdy offsetting bitter earth, burnt pine, well toasted bread, brown sugar, soft licorice, toffee. Really nice. Quite dynamic.

Bottle shared at Jack’s Farwell Tasting, big thanks to Bruce, 06/08/13. Extremely dark mahogony brown with a thin tan head. Nose carries bourbon notes, dark toffee, light roast, dark fruit background. Taste comprises dark toffee, oaky bourbon tones, brown sugars, toasted malt, caramel, light booze. Medium bodied with bite, fine carbonation, smooth on the palate, light booze in the finish. Soild stuff, the alcohol is well integrated.
