Taken from notes - 660 ml bottle shared by Jeffor and Erik at Sloshfest 2012 - 6 in a row... This one is the most toasted and roasted of them all. Hard in the nose and the most edgy in the taste. Full bourbon smell and taste,. Liked it but perhaps the least of em all.

Yellow wax, bottle #1016, vintage 2011 bottle shared by badnewsbeers. Deep opaque brown/black body, thin off-white head. Nose of oak and whiskey; also roasty and inky with coffee beans, but dominated by whiskey. Round, soft body dominated by whiskey, which subsumes most of the intensity of the base beer, leaving softer notes of roast, coffee, and chocolate. Spicy. A complex sipper.

Pour out of 750 mL bottle, Darkness Day 2012. Dark oily chocolate brown pour with creamy tan head, aroma brought big spice, oak, nice dark fruits, chocolate, the whiskey comes through a bit boozy but works well working into dark roasted and coffee notes, touch of vanilla as well comes through. Taste is a mix of dark chocolate, toffee, dark fruits mixing into molasses, oak, spice notes, nice whiskey in there with a hint of vanilla mixing into some roast, coffee, finishing bitter, dry, slightly boozy and spicy.

Bottle #940, 2011 Buffalo Trace edition. Pours a deep chocolate-brown color with a touch of oiliness and viscosity; modestly sized fine-bubbled tan head with solid lacing. Aroma shows fruity ethanol, some assertive roast and bitter chocolate, and just a touch of the caramel-y goodness lurking in the glass. Iíll say without reservation that this version was the one I went back to time and again at the 2011 release party: seemingly lighter CO2 and a rounder feel in the mouth made it stand out alongside the slightly more bubbly, more bitter-chocolate-and-roast-forward renditions; after a year in the cellar, a slight hint of oxidation opens this up even further: caramel, milk chocolate, a soft-sweet bourbon character, cola, light char, and some potent vanilla; maybe this is the softest of the group, but I found it the most inviting: its layered flavors offered up like a buffet, more than ready to savor, like the precise opposite of a wine that calls for a decanter. Some beautiful stuff here. Layers of caramel and milk chocolate in the finish, along with a bready toastiness appearing.

Drake (8981) - Free Union, Virginia, USA - NOV 25, 2012
Bottle shared at the Richmond Industry Gathering. Pours a clear dark ruby color with a medium sized creamy brown head. Good head retention. Aroma of big whisky notes, oak, vanilla, raisin, cocoa, nutty notes. The taste is sweet malts, cocoa, vanilla, coconut, booze and a mild hop finis. Full bodied, Big, huge bourbon stout, and quite good.

Served in a FiftyFifty Eclipse snifter. The beer is dark brown, nearing blacks porting a small, beige head that leaves a bit of lacing in its wake. The aroma offers booze, vanilla, chocolate roast. The beer is slightly sweet, with prominent barrel characteristics throughout. Nice notes of vanilla and chocolate. Medium to full bodied with a boozy finish. This variant is middle of the pack as far as Eclipse stouts. Overall, a tasty beer. I would have this again.

Bottle, 22oz. A dark brown beer, quite clear, and topped by a dense, dark beige head. The aroma isnít very intense, quite mellow and weak actually, but pleasant. Some bourbon and vanilla, chocolate dominating. Quite sweet on the palate, with chocolate, some bourbon and vanilla, and a touch of coffee. Good bitterness in the end. A really pleasant one, but nothing extraordinary. 121109
