4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle (22 oz). Shared by hoppypocket, thanks Sir! Black with a medium diminishing brown head and little lacing. Aroma of chocolate, caramel, roasted malt, bourbon, vanilla, boozy notes, oak and very light fruity notes. Taste is moderately sweet (not cloying, especially considering it’s from the Eclipse series) with caramel, bourbon, chocolate, vanilla, roasted malt, alcohol, oak and light bitter finish (from the coffee?). Full bodied. Low to moderate carbonation. Chewy mouthfeel; the beer isn’t extra thick though. Good balance. Quite complex. Another decadent Eclipse!

4.1 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
650 ml bottle shared with Tom and chums. Pours an orange tinted black with...practically no head at all. Aroma is wood, chocolate, coffee and loads of liquor. I’d say bourbon. Elijah Craig bourbon. Flavor is dark chocolate, coffee, hazelnut, wood, bourbon....booze! Finish is coffee bitterness and bourbon...booze! Lingering coffee and bourbon...booze! Medium to strong body, soft mouthfeel, weak carbonation. Very flavrful, solid, imperial stout.

4.1 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 18/20
Bottle at Eulogy. BR 1 2012. Purple wax. Opaque pour with some small brown foam. Bottom of the glass shows a clear honey brown. Room temperature. Heady bourbon fumes off the top. Great stuff! Big dark notes very well blended with age. Liquorice. Black cherry cordial. Raisins. Prunes. Cigars. Burnt marshmallows. Lots of barrel notes. Body reads a bit thinner than expected. Flavors are very smooth though the high alcohol is not hidden - feels much higher than the 9.5% ABV on the label.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Purple wax. 5 stars for presentation and going all the way for every flavor possible. Pours thick and with very little head. Dark. Aroma of bourbon, candy and taffy. Tastes strongly of bourbon, smoky oak, some more honey/taffy/dark fruit, sweet but not overbearing and a muted hop like finish with what I think is citrus. Lots of cacao as well.

4.1 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
A - pours like molasses, opaque black with cola edges and very minimal cola head. S - nice very rich bourbon aromas. Cereal grains ( dry husked wheat, barley) and dark dried fruits ( dried figs, prunes, raisins) molasses, toffee, burnt sugar, sweet Whisky smells. Vanilla and light graham cracker M - medium heavy body, lighter than expected. Watery mf, dry grassy end. Alcohol is tasted in the end. T - dusty earthy chalk is prevalent on the nose. Vanilla, chocolate, toffee sweetness along with dark dried fruits lead the way. Dry oaky notes, bready malts, dried dates on the palate. Flavor falls off to a lingering mineral water, dried grasses faceless bitterness and alcohol sting. O - good but not great. The aromas are much better than the tastes. Taste falls flat and the grains are too prevalent 4.1.

4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
22oz, purple waxed bottle #2694, 2011 edition. pours a deep, dark brown, almost opaque and sits black in the glass capped by a thin, mocha head that leaves tight rings of lace. aroma is excellent, a bit sweeter that other Eclipse versions, with notes of vanilla, toasted coconut, almonds, and spearmint backed by roasted malts, cocoa, light espresso, and subtle notes of toasted barrel. flavor is where this one really shines with notes of german chocolate cake with extra coconut icing, ashy malts, espresso, and subtle smoke backed by pralines, chocolate oranges, vanilla, and smooth, woody barrel notes. palate appears thin to the eye but actually ramps up in the mouthfeel with light carbonation a warming finish. overall, another excellent Eclipse variation.
