5 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 20/20
this beer is worth the price... simply amazing. pours nice and black with a firm tan head - that lasts throughout. layered vanilla, bourbon, light coffee and chocolate nose - they all blend so well together - nothing dominating - very well blended aromas. full body with smooth chocolate malts, silky vanilla and bourbon notes with a lingering bitterness. roasted finish with more bourbon and vanilla peaking in flavor. a lot of bourbon barrel aged stouts are way too boozy and heavy - this beer is so inviting and soothing - nothing forced - simple perfection.

Bottle shared by a friend at the 5th Annual Coldest Day of the Year Stout Tasting on 1/26/13. Darkest brown pour with a medium tan head. Aroma of malt, chocolate, bourbon and vanilla. Malty and chocolatey flavor with some roasty coffee and bourbon before a roasty finish.

3.8 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 10/20
Rating this so I remember which one I had. PURPLE WAX. Great sweet bourbon aroma, with lots of alcohol. Jet black, slightly brown aorund the edges, perfect. Taste is more mild than many bourbon aged beers, and less harsh. Iíd call it a ísessioní bourbon aged beer, if you will. Lots of sweet bourbonish tastes that fall off pretty quick, thatís why itís not a 10. The not too thick palate really works to make this very drinkable. But the cost, $30, knocks the overall experience down for me quite a bit. This was a $12-$15 experience, not $30-$33, what itís costing in Chicago. At this price, Iíll never buy it again.

4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
2012 bottle, poured into a tulip. Black with medium sized head. Aroma is roast, malt, chocolate, bourbon, vanilla, wood. Flavor has a sweetness that is different than other Eclipses I have tried, and more like Black Tuesday. Complex flavor and medium to full mouthfeel. The best Eclipse Iíve tried so far.

Barrel 1. Poured into snifter. Thin dark tan head with nice lacing. Aroma of vanilla, bourbon; wonderful. Good carbonation. Taste is slightly boozy, slightly warm, chocolate, and bourbon slightly sweet on the tongue with dark chocolate bitter finish. Very nice stout.

4.4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20
Fresh from bottle 2012. Black pour with thick tan head. Aromas of booze and bourbon. Had previously enjoyed evan williams bottle, which I thought had a little better aroma.Taste is spectacular. Not getting as much chocolate and coffee as i got with the evan williams either. Overall, Iím surprised to say I found the Williams a little better, which I did not expect to be the case.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle 2012. Poured black color with an average creamy brown head that mostly lasted with excellent lacing. Moderate to heavy roasted malt, chocolate, bourbon, vanilla woody and small alcohol aroma. Medium to full body with a rich smooth texture and flat carbonation. Medium to heavy roasted sweet bourbon and chocolate cream flavor with a medium to heavy complex sweet smooth finish of moderate to long duration. This is a standout brew.

4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
We did a taste testing of five different 50-50 2012 stouts. For the base stout, itís quite frankly superb. Pours black, with a beautiful yellowish-white froth. Some coffee notes, little bitterness, but the predominating flavor is roasted malt.
Of the five, this and two others were in my second tier. Quite good, mind you, but very bourbony in flavor. If you enjoy a bourbon-infused stout, you canít go wrong with this. The Elijah had a late punch, lingering in bourbon flavor after the initial stout taste.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Sample from 2011 and 2012 vintages at the 5th Annual Coldest Day of the Year Stout Tasting on 01/26/2013: Pours dark brown with a medium thin beige head that diminishes steadily to a film. Patchy lacing on the glass. Aroma of bourbon, vanilla and chocolate. Full-bodied with flavors of oaky vanilla, bourbon and dark chocolate. The finish is burnt malt and bourbon. Good overall.
