Aroma is pure luscious scraped vanilla bean, rum cake, raisins and wet wood. Lots of charred wood and dry aged beefiness in the flavor with a bitnof ash and a dry, raw roastiness. The body is medium but elegant, it comes and goes with grace. Nice expression of the style that I appreciated much more upon a second tasting. Thanks Fifty Fifty. 2011 22 oz.

Tap @ FWIBF. Pours a black color with a tan head. Aroma is of roasted malt, coconut, oak, bourbon, tobacco and vanilla. The flavor is of roasted malt, vanilla, coconut, bourbon, oak, tobacco, coffee, dark fruits and dark chocolate. The body is full with a creamy mouth feel. Overall a pretty tasty Imperial Stout.

Poured from a 22 ounce bomber, thanks to Doug. Lots going on here. The aroma has hot alcohol notes, toffee, bourbon. The flavor is burnt sugar, honey, vanilla, chocolate, bourbon. Am amazing RIS, one of my favorites. Nice dry finish.

dark cola color. Good nose of chocolate, roast, coconut, marshmallow, oak and bourbon Taste and feel give more alcohol but carmel also makes appearances as well as more of the barrel notes. Not as thick as other BA beers but very easy to drink. Splendid drink and more like a fine brandy in a lot of ways

22 oz. bottle. Pours dark brown/black with a small tan head. Nose is chocolate, bourbon, roast, oak, vanilla and dark fruits. Flavors are the same. This was consumed side by side with the 18/20 yr. version. This was not quite as smooth and showed more woody qualities. Still good, but not as good as the 18/20 year.

At FWIBF, Black pour, tan head, Bourbon, sweet, Vanilla, chocolate on the nose. Flavor is similar with some creaminess. Good stuff!

On tap at The Trestle Inn during a NorCal Sours & Hops event as part of Philly Beer Week. Strong bourbon scent coming off the surface, confirmed by the smooth taste. Very little head or carbonation, but dominant vanilla and chocolate flavors; more so than a major hops presence. This beer was about as boubon-y as Founders Backwoods Bastard, and that’s saying something. A really impressive and exceptional beer for slow sipping.

UPDATED: DEC 14, 2013 Bottle at Stone Oakquinox 2012. Black pour, thin dark tan head. Chocolate, bourbon, molasses, raisin, sugary, and some vanilla. Not as smooth and less vanilla than the 18 year.

Huge thanks to my friend Brent for this 2011 bomber. Poured into sniffer. Notable carbonation, but thin khaki head on a dark brown, mostly opaque body. Smells like heaven. Dark chocolate, salted caramel, coconut, lavender, and well aged bourbon. Tastes like adult candy. Dry sweet honey is quite prominent. Bitter chocolate, roasted coffee, strong bourbon and booze. Quite drinkable and really enjoyable. Want to try the others and have the bourbon available for comparison!
