4.3 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
Bottle shared @ tasting. Thnx to timfoolery for sending me this! Pours a pitch black beer with a brownish hue around the rims, Small beige head on top. Aroma has nice bourbon characters, smooth caramel and vanilla. Some syrupy things going on. Even some ripe red fruits going on in the background. Flavor is very sweet, well balanced with some touches of vanilla going on again. Cloying mouthfeel. Amazingly well balanced beer.

4.6 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20
Un brownies liquide avec un glaçage à la vanille et des notes de petits fruits. Le corps soyeux et velouté des eclipse y est encore une fois.

11/26/10. 2009 elijah craig #147.
dark. almost black with a soft tan head.
milk chocolate aroma... bits of creamy, brown sugar, ash, spice, roast, vanilla and mellow bourbon exist as well.
the flavor is very rich and the bourbon doesn’t over power everything. aftertaste is chocolate-y bourbon goodness.
medium to full body, creamy texture and all around impressive. 8.5/4/8.5/5/17

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
UPDATED: DEC 26, 2009 Draft @ FiftyFifty, 2009 Elijah Craig version. Pours a very dark, chocolate-brown color; medium-brown head (thin) with attractive fine-bubbled lacing. Pleasantly oily, charred malts and dark chocolate in the aroma; tempered alcohol, warming, lots of dried dark fruits; I don’t see much difference from previous renditions. Dense, oily, full mouthfeel: lots of pepper, dark chocolate, and dried dark fruits; some lovely oily and inkiness; relaxed carbonation; just enough bite to this - a solid vintage of an excellent beer. Medium finish: dark fruits, chocolate, nicely toasty, hidden alcohol at the end. 18.104.22.168.16=4.1
22oz bottle. Pours a very dark, chocolate-brown color; minimal light; medium tan head with fine-bubbled lacing; solid pour. Lots of milk and dark chocolate, roasted / toasty malts, and a very soft, vanilla-laden bourbon / woody character in the nose; very nice, soft bourbon-aged imperial stout nose; some spicy, toasty graham cracker notes. Full mouthfeel: loads of dense, generous milk chocolate, roasted / burnt malts, and nougat upfront; roasted coffee, dense, chewy milk chocolate, and plenty of vanilla-tinged, chewy soft bourbon presence; really pleasant, soft bourbon presence with some buttery vanilla and sweet brown sugar; excellent barrel character; soft edges. Slightest show of warmth. Excellent, oily presence in the mouth. Lengthy finish: oily milk and dark chocolate, roasted malts, coffee, and warming alcohol; toasty malts and coffee at the far end. 22.214.171.124.16=4.1

2.2 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 8/20
Elijah Craig bottle shared by MrPickles...thanks Andy! - Tasted this blind, and was really surprised by the reveal. I loved the Heaven Hill version, and figured I’d love this one, too. Pours dark cola with barely a head. Nose is tons of sharp alcohol. I’d expect it to be a bit hot, but the booze is so overpowering that I can’t smell much else. It’s sweet though--lots of caramel and vanilla, but even that’s hard to discern beneath all that sharp alcohol. The taste is roughly the same, though a little less hot. None of the flavors seem to be very well integrated--as if a shot of liquor was dumped in an imperial stout. It’s even thinner and more watery than I’d expect. Overall, this beer took me by total surprise, in a bad way.
