4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
UPDATED: APR 7, 2013 Bourbon and stout. Aroma and taste are pretty gentile. Had this up against a few other ba stouts. Not as much bite as some of the others. Not worth the price but at least its available.

4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Tasting at Gourmet Haus during SF Beer Week. Out of a snifter. Amazing bourbon aroma jumps out of the glass inviting one to rush to taste this. This drink is to be savored. Taste picks up some cola hints, which are interesting.

4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
We did a taste testing of five different 50-50 2012 stouts. For the base stout, it’s quite frankly superb. Pours black, with a beautiful yellowish-white froth. Some coffee notes, little bitterness, but the predominating flavor is roasted malt.
Of the five, this and two others were in my second tier. Quite good, mind you, but very bourbony in flavor. If you enjoy a bourbon-infused stout, you can’t go wrong with this. The Elijah had a late punch, lingering in bourbon flavor after the initial stout taste.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
2012 Bottle. Pours a very dark brown with fine, moderate brown head. Some thin, stringy lacing. Aroma is sweet, vanilla, bourbon, with hints of chocolate, mild roast. Smells inviting though less intense than the 20 year Elijah Craig. Flavor is mild bourbon up front, mildly vanilla, sweet, honey, with a mild roast finish. Chocolatey, vanilla, oaky, bourbon aftertaste. The flavor is pretty good, but a bit of a let down for the price. Barrel comes across as thin. Soft carbonation, medium body, seems a little light and thin for the style. A fairly good bourbon barrel imperial stout, though I will pass on FiftyFifty next time. These eclipse imperial stouts are way overpriced.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20
Pours pitch black with a thin moka head that doesn’t leave much lacing. Aroma is of green hops, bourbon. Taste is quite sweet but the roasted malt and alcohol/bourbon do a good job to make it all balanced out. Flavors of coffee, chocolate and booze working in almost perfect harmony. Body is full and heavy but still really drinkable. A nice change of pace in a sour/wild tasting!

4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Bottle pours brown black with thin tan head. Aroma bourbon, roast, malts. Taste follows with malts, roast, a little coffee and chocolate, slight oak. Finish mild roast and oak, bourbon. Palate a bit thin, nice alcohol burn, slight carbonation. Very nice, a little fuller palate would have pushed it higher.

4.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 19/20
Just came into our state of Ariz. 2012 22oz. Bottle. Poured black with a dimished tan head. Low carbonation. Up front Bourbon nose followed by some wood like aromas. The Bourbon dominates with distinct whiskey flavors, accompanied with roasted coffee and bitter dark chocolates, and caramels. Nice balanced sweetness with the alcohol tipping the scales. Delicious and smooth. A little thin.

4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
2012 Bottle. Pitch black pour, a baby finger of head. Bourbon and roast on the nose. Barrel is integrated well here, bourbon, vanilla, dark chocolate, roast, coffee. Very smooth, not overly boozy and no alcohol burn. Full body with lighter carbonation.

4.6 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20
Pours a very dark brown with a fat, foamy, long-lasting, light mocha head. Head retention is about average. Wood, coconut, and chocolate syrup were noted in the aromas. Heavy viscous, creamy mouthfeel that becomes a little astringent at the finish. Chocolate syrup forward with some coconut and ample bourbon. A very, very good imperial stout. Much better than the Vanilla Bean Dark Lord that I’d had moments earlier.
