Bottle share by Paul, nice oak barrel scents with lots of dark fruit. Flavor is very bourbon forward, with great chocolate flavors and the dark fruit blended with chocolate, just an outstanding finish and beer. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

2011 Bottle. Pour is black with a small tan head. Aroma and flavor on this is very sweet, borderline cloying. Notes of raisins, oak, brown sugar, vanilla, brownies, chocolate, and roasted malts. Some slight bourbon in the finish, but it is mostly overpowered by the sugary characteristics.

Hard not to love everything about this beer. Seriously, this brewery has mastered the art of whiskey-aged stouts. Aroma and taste both have tons of cherry cordial, toffee, dark chocolate, and molasses. Thick and sweet and hard to get out of your mouth. I want to live next door to this brewery!

65 cl bottle @ home (2012 vintage). Pours black with a tan head that leaves quite a bit of lacing. Aroma and flavour are roasted malt, bourbon, vanilla, and coffee - with a bitter finish.

Black. Good sized frothy creamy frothy medium brown head, fairly lasting with some lace. Aroma is roasty, chocolatey, a little ash, along with some soft subtle bourbon. Lighter full body. Creamy and ultra smooth. Flavor explodes! Roasty coffee. Dark chocolate. Ash. Extraordinarily smooth bourbon. Some alcohol warmth, but no booze whatsoever. Phenomenal balance. Fantastic! Way exceeded my expectations.

Elijah Craig version, sampled side by side with the Heaven Hill Rye version, both thanks to Dak! Dark brown pour with a creamy head. Aroma of roasted malt, bourbon, coffee, dark fruit and vanilla. Flavor is much the same. Roasty and delicious!

Poured into a snifter. 2011 vintage, bottle #3609. Purple wax, so I have the right listing. 4.5 A: Black color. Two fingers of creamy tan head. Retention is good and glass covering lacing is left behind. 3.5 S: Compared to the BT blend, this is surprisingly mellow. Thereís less of everything. Less chocolate from the base beer, less bourbon, less intensity overall. Like the BT, the barrel aging is very good. No hints of astringency or off-flavors. Also, the booze is incredibly well hidden. The bourbon itself is leathery, lightly earthy, and superbly smooth. Less vanilla and oak in this one. Overall this is about as well put together as it can get, but itís lacking any sort of intensity or complexity. 3.5 T: The taste follows the nose in that this is super mellow, but not as impressive as it could be. There isnít much going on from the base beer except for a light chocolate and roastiness. Rather, this is just a showcase for the bourbon. Unfortunately, the bourbon isnít strong enough for this to be much of a success. Leathery with melon fruitiness, a light earthiness, and a mild booze. A lot more well rounded that the BT blend, but also not as potent. Thus, it ends up with the same score. 3.0 M: Medium body. Maybe a touch heavier than the BT blend. This could use a touch more carbonation, but itís within the acceptable range. Also lacking with creaminess. 3.5 D: This beer (and I assume the rest of what Iíll drink) suffers from the same problems as the previous variants Iíve had. Great barrel aging, but they started with a less than impressive stout. Put a little more effort in there, and this would be a gangbusters horizontal. As an aside, EC must be some good stuff since it came off so mellow, well rounded, and complete in this beer. I might have to pick up a bottle. Serving type: bottle Reviewed on: 01-21-2012 00:54:35

Bottle at Home from Saveur-Biere.com - Color: dark black beer with no carbonation and small brown head. Smell: coffee domination, caramel and bourbon barrel aged. Really amazing complexity. Need to taste it!!!! Taste: as the same on nose, this beer is amazing. Good coffee taste and roasted malt. Caramel complexity and bourbon barrel aged complexity. Very amazing palate. This beer is a MUST to try. Aftertaste: good bitterness and very well equilibrium. Coffee caramel and bourbon barrel aged finish. One of the best I try !!!

Dark brown with thin watery edge. Full rich nose of bourbon, vanilla wood notes, and maybe some molasses. Taste is full on rich bourbon, chocolate, vanilla, and dark roast coffee. Just a full-on decadent bourbon bomb with very will integrated alcohol. Delicious, but interestingly not as complex as itís base beer.
