Big thanks to Tanger for opening his newly purchased bottle for us to try. I have been wanting to try this one for awhile now. A - Pours jet black with a nice one finger tall off-white head leaving light lace down the glass. S - Smells of bourbon, chocolate, vanilla, coffee, and oak. The alcohol is fairly prevalent initially but it mellows out and some of the other aromas come out. It will be interesting to see how this develops in the bottle. T - Starts off with a quick jolt of vanilla and chocolatey sweetness that quickly gets enveloped by the warming bourbon. Once the booze dies down it leave the pallet dry with oak tannins, lingering on the pallet for some time. This one is a joy to drink, altho I think it may even get better in the bottle. M - Heavy body and flavor with moderately low carbonation. Smooth, silky feel that clings to the pallet. Alcohol is present but doesn’t really get in the way. O - One of the best Eclipses’ I have had to date. The balance of base to barrel was nearly flawless and the booze never got to the point of being overpowering. Glad I finally got to try this one as it really lived up to my expectations.

BR3/2012 parallell med 2/2013. Oerhört stora likheter och dom landar på samma rate men måste man välja så tar jag 2013. Tung balanserad bourbonstout. - härligt härligt och krämigt krämigt!

Bottle from Les Caves, Corvallis. 2011 vintage. Pours a very dark brown, little to no tan head. Aroma straight Bourbon, slight jobs of smoke and oak. Roasty tobacco notes. Body slight but really opens up, surprisingly big for age and ABV, no evidence of breakdown. Finish still retains a raw oakiness. Could probably hold onto this another five years and see continued evolution.

22 oz. purple waxed bottle served in a Firestone Walker tulip. 2011 vintage, bottle # 2286. A: Pours black color with dark brown edges. A one finger height of light tan foam forms on the pour and recedes quickly to a thin collar. It’s a little bubbly and leaves some spotty lace down the glass. S: Bourbon and oak with honey sweetness. There is nice mild chocolate, some roasted malts and a little caramel on the finish. T: Sweet bourbon. It’s very smooth and is integrated nicely with the base beer. Mild oak with a nice caramel and dark chocolate flavor profile. The finish is slightly warming. M: Medium bodied with a medium carbonation. Smooth and rich mouthfeel. O: The best of the 2011 variants (that I’ve had so far). The barrel was nicely integrated and melded well with the base beer. Serving type: bottle Reviewed on: 07-08-2012

From notes. First reviewed 2/23/2011. Poured from a 22 oz. bottle into a tasting glass. This pours a dark brown with walnut edges. A small brown head forms initially but fades rather quickly and leaves no lace. The delicious aroma of Elijah Craig hits me first, with molasses, vanilla, and oak coming next. Chocolate and a bit of coffee add to the wonderful aroma. The EC takes a minute to really hit my taste buds. Dark roasted malt blends well with a decadent dark chocolate and a bit of coffee flavor. Then a vanilla and molasses sweetness introduce the bourbon flavor. A bit of woody oak, a touch of smoke, and then the finish is lightly sweet and more bourbon. Delicious. This is full bodied with an appropriate level of carbonation. Somewhat creamy, but also a bit dry. Bourbon has the typical warming effect. Getting to try this was a treat. The beer performed as well, meeting my expectations. Another success for barrel aged stouts.

Bottle share thanks to beechnercat. Big caramel, toffee, semisweet, malty, light boozy aroma. Dark brown/black, opaque, minimal brown head. Malty, roasty, semisweet, light chocolate, quite boozy, oaky, very tasty.

2012 Bottle. Pitch black pour, a baby finger of head. Bourbon and roast on the nose. Barrel is integrated well here, bourbon, vanilla, dark chocolate, roast, coffee. Very smooth, not overly boozy and no alcohol burn. Full body with lighter carbonation.
