Tasting at Gourmet Haus during SF Beer Week. Out of a snifter. Amazing bourbon aroma jumps out of the glass inviting one to rush to taste this. This drink is to be savored. Taste picks up some cola hints, which are interesting.

Bottle split with Mark and Janine after work. Pours cola black with a thin tan head. Aroma of vanilla, cola, berries, honey. Taste is sweet cocoa, ripe raspberries, oak, and subtle whiskey notes. Not overbearing or cloying. Very smooth, very drinkable, nice burn in the chest. Good. Very good. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

2012 vintage. 22 oz bottle from Total Wine in Tucson, served in a stem glass alongside Elijah Craig 12 year. Pours black with a moderate tan head that remains and leaves lots of fine lace. The nose has big molasses and caramel malts along with chocolate, oak, bourbon and a touch of licorice. The flavour is roasty-malty with herbal hops and a touch of pine. The finish is long, roasty and slightly hoppy. On the palate it is full in body with a smooth, creamy texture and soft carbonation. Overall, this is a very nice bourbon barrel-aged imperial stout; the bourbon is quite subtle but it adds a nice degree of complexity. 2013-11-22

dark cola color. Good nose of chocolate, roast, coconut, marshmallow, oak and bourbon Taste and feel give more alcohol but carmel also makes appearances as well as more of the barrel notes. Not as thick as other BA beers but very easy to drink. Splendid drink and more like a fine brandy in a lot of ways

Dry finish from creamy excellence. 2012 bottle shared by GothGargoyle. Thanks so much! Aroma is bourbon, chocolate, coffee, vanilla, boozey. Taste is sweet, with a tangy bitterness. Palate is ridiculously smooth.

Aroma: thick bourbon and fruity sweet. Flavour: sweet fruity bourbon and roasted chocolate, and an alcoholic warmth, and a dark fruity aftertaste. A creamy mouthfeel. Colour: almost pitch balck with a creamy light brown head.

Bottle pours black with low tan head. Aroma is bourbon, and chocolate roast. Taste is nice smooth roast and bourbon, with a bitter roast finish, not too boozy, well done

DocJitsu (1182) - Florida, USA - MAR 30, 2013
Pours a very dark brown with a fat, foamy, long-lasting, light mocha head. Head retention is about average. Wood, coconut, and chocolate syrup were noted in the aromas. Heavy viscous, creamy mouthfeel that becomes a little astringent at the finish. Chocolate syrup forward with some coconut and ample bourbon. A very, very good imperial stout. Much better than the Vanilla Bean Dark Lord that I’d had moments earlier.

2011 bottle. Pitch black pour with thin creamy head, quickly receding, fine sudsy lacing. Nose dominated by rich caramel vanilla bourbon, more traditional flavors of milk chocolate, roast coffee come out as the beer warms. Taste again has strong vanilla toffee, overarching bourbon characteristics, chocolate, mild roast in the finish with some heat. Could do with slightly less sweetness to help everything meld together. Silky smooth palate, almost creamy. Pretty nice, manages to avoid overdoing it with booziness which has turned me off with past bottles of this series.
