4.6 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20
Pours a very dark brown with a fat, foamy, long-lasting, light mocha head. Head retention is about average. Wood, coconut, and chocolate syrup were noted in the aromas. Heavy viscous, creamy mouthfeel that becomes a little astringent at the finish. Chocolate syrup forward with some coconut and ample bourbon. A very, very good imperial stout. Much better than the Vanilla Bean Dark Lord that I’d had moments earlier.

4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
22oz, purple waxed bottle #2694, 2011 edition. pours a deep, dark brown, almost opaque and sits black in the glass capped by a thin, mocha head that leaves tight rings of lace. aroma is excellent, a bit sweeter that other Eclipse versions, with notes of vanilla, toasted coconut, almonds, and spearmint backed by roasted malts, cocoa, light espresso, and subtle notes of toasted barrel. flavor is where this one really shines with notes of german chocolate cake with extra coconut icing, ashy malts, espresso, and subtle smoke backed by pralines, chocolate oranges, vanilla, and smooth, woody barrel notes. palate appears thin to the eye but actually ramps up in the mouthfeel with light carbonation a warming finish. overall, another excellent Eclipse variation.

Aroma: Molasses, caramel, chocolate, port, raisin and bourbon. Extremely rich and smooth. There are also hints of licorish which I find to be strange

4.2 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Blackish with small tan head. Aroma of bourbon, vanilla, marshmallow. Flavor is good, quite sweet, oily, strong bourbon. Really nice, like the 20 year but a bit more boozy.

Tap @ FWIBF. Pours a black color with a tan head. Aroma is of roasted malt, coconut, oak, bourbon, tobacco and vanilla. The flavor is of roasted malt, vanilla, coconut, bourbon, oak, tobacco, coffee, dark fruits and dark chocolate. The body is full with a creamy mouth feel. Overall a pretty tasty Imperial Stout.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
2012 Bottle. Pours a very dark brown with fine, moderate brown head. Some thin, stringy lacing. Aroma is sweet, vanilla, bourbon, with hints of chocolate, mild roast. Smells inviting though less intense than the 20 year Elijah Craig. Flavor is mild bourbon up front, mildly vanilla, sweet, honey, with a mild roast finish. Chocolatey, vanilla, oaky, bourbon aftertaste. The flavor is pretty good, but a bit of a let down for the price. Barrel comes across as thin. Soft carbonation, medium body, seems a little light and thin for the style. A fairly good bourbon barrel imperial stout, though I will pass on FiftyFifty next time. These eclipse imperial stouts are way overpriced.

4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Big thanks to Tanger for opening his newly purchased bottle for us to try. I have been wanting to try this one for awhile now.
A - Pours jet black with a nice one finger tall off-white head leaving light lace down the glass.
S - Smells of bourbon, chocolate, vanilla, coffee, and oak. The alcohol is fairly prevalent initially but it mellows out and some of the other aromas come out. It will be interesting to see how this develops in the bottle.
T - Starts off with a quick jolt of vanilla and chocolatey sweetness that quickly gets enveloped by the warming bourbon. Once the booze dies down it leave the pallet dry with oak tannins, lingering on the pallet for some time. This one is a joy to drink, altho I think it may even get better in the bottle.
M - Heavy body and flavor with moderately low carbonation. Smooth, silky feel that clings to the pallet. Alcohol is present but doesn’t really get in the way.
O - One of the best Eclipses’ I have had to date. The balance of base to barrel was nearly flawless and the booze never got to the point of being overpowering. Glad I finally got to try this one as it really lived up to my expectations.

4.4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
Bottle from Les Caves, Corvallis. 2011 vintage. Pours a very dark brown, little to no tan head. Aroma straight Bourbon, slight jobs of smoke and oak. Roasty tobacco notes. Body slight but really opens up, surprisingly big for age and ABV, no evidence of breakdown. Finish still retains a raw oakiness. Could probably hold onto this another five years and see continued evolution.
