2014 Bottle in my hotel room. Pours opaque with a medium, frothy beige head, medium retention with good lacing. Aroma is heavy rich dark malt, roast and chocolate character with prunes, whiskey, light oak, licorice and earthy hops. Flavor is rich dark malt, chocolate notes, oak and vanilla with peppery whiskey, dark fruits, earthy hops and light bitterness with a sweet finish. Full body and medium carbonation. Fairly substantial but not hot or cloying.

Bottle (#182, 2011) thanks to Bruce at THE Eclipse tasting, 2012. It pours very dark brown, with a small light tan head, which quickly dissipates. The nose is upfront bourbon, vanilla, medicinal aspect, tar, treacle and toffee. The taste is roasted malt, charcoal, tar, wood, mellow bourbon, burnt earth, dark fruit, toffee, medicinal, toast and toffee, with a dry, warming finish. Full body, fine carbonation and thankfully not too cloying. Well balanced, mellow and flavoursome... good stuff!

Woodshop! Black pour. Chocolate, molasses, bourbon, oak, vanilla and toffee nose. Flavor is much the same. I love how this brewery melds the barrel with a wondeful beer. Delicious!

Sample from 2011 and 2012 vintages at the 5th Annual Coldest Day of the Year Stout Tasting on 01/26/2013: Pours dark brown with a medium thin beige head that diminishes steadily to a film. Patchy lacing on the glass. Aroma of bourbon, vanilla and chocolate. Full-bodied with flavors of oaky vanilla, bourbon and dark chocolate. The finish is burnt malt and bourbon. Good overall.

I think the aroma is slightly off on this one compared to other variants, also the mouthfeel seems thinner.

Bottle shared at a tasting at Beer Market Jaffa. Bottle run no. 2/2013. 11.9%. Black with a big light brown head. Roasty aroma of coffee, bourbon, wood, some vanilla, a bit of coconut, some dark fruits, some chocolate and a bit of alcohol. Roasty flavor, a bit boozy, sweet, with chocolate, bourbon, a bit of vanilla and some dark fruits. Quite full-bodied. Very good.

Bottle… Pours clear and nearly black with a small, creamy, beige head. Decent retention. The bouquet offers bourbon-soaked fudge, vanilla, vinous dark sherry and a touch of coconut. Full-bodied with a skim-milk mouthfeel and zippy carbonation. The flavor is a swirl of fudge, sweet tawny port, bitter black malt and hops flanked by charcoal. Finishes singed and bittersweet – more bitter than sweet. Kudos to richiesd for providing this bottle!
