Bottle. Pours dark, opaque, black with tan head. The aroma of this beer is one of the best in the 50/50 options. Smell is big booze, vanilla, oak, bitter chocolate, roasted burnt coffee, malts and dark fruits. Taste is simply amazing. Big vanilla, oak, toffee, leather and tobacco from the Elijah Craig barrel. Also chocolate, roasted coffee, brown sugar and booze. Full bodied well balanced creamy beer. This is one of my favorite stouts out there!

Bottle from Les Caves, Corvallis. 2011 vintage. Pours a very dark brown, little to no tan head. Aroma straight Bourbon, slight jobs of smoke and oak. Roasty tobacco notes. Body slight but really opens up, surprisingly big for age and ABV, no evidence of breakdown. Finish still retains a raw oakiness. Could probably hold onto this another five years and see continued evolution.

2012 bottle from trade with errantknight, thanks buddy! Black with a beige brown head. Fantastic aroma with bourbon, pralines, sweet licorice. Taste: creamy chocolate, toffee, bourbon, licorice. Full-bodied. Wow, the tastiest beer I’ve had in a long while.

Fifty Fifty Eclipse Elijah Craig (Purple Wax 2013) and served in snifter: Opaque with a long lasting frothy head and nice lace. Great woody and char overtone with some leather and tobacco notes too. The coffee roast and dark chocolate keeps this from being one of those too sweet and too bourbon-y Imperial Stouts. MIKEY LIKEY... I am pretty sure that this is my fav from the series so far!!

Pours black with a low tan head perfectly separated. Aromas of chocolate, muscovado sugar, honey, bourbon, vanilla, oak. Taste is chocolate, honey, muscovado sugar, vanilla, dark dried berries, bourbon. Mouthfeel is smooth and silky with medium carbonation. Aftertaste is a perfect blend between vanilla, oak, honey and muscovado sugar. Just fantastic!!

22oz bottle with purple wax. Pours a very deep caramel brown with a nice tan head, light lacing. Great nose of light bourbon notes along with vanilla, toffee and caramel. Nice and drinkable, not overbearing.

11/26/10. 2009 elijah craig #147. dark. almost black with a soft tan head. milk chocolate aroma... bits of creamy, brown sugar, ash, spice, roast, vanilla and mellow bourbon exist as well. the flavor is very rich and the bourbon doesn’t over power everything. aftertaste is chocolate-y bourbon goodness. medium to full body, creamy texture and all around impressive. 8.5/4/8.5/5/17

Bottle generously shared by a BA at the Rapture release. Poured a pitch black body under a brown long lasting head. Aroma of coconut, vanilla, bourbon, oak, charcoal and chocolate cake. Fuller syrupy body with a touch of obvious heat. Flavor of chocolate, bourbon, vanilla, oak, tobacco, tar. Good good stuff.

2011 bottle, # 3022. Pours dark black with some dark brown through direct light, and a clingy tan head. More head than the copper wax. Nose is heavy earthy. woody, cacaoey, with a lot of spirity notes. Tastes pretty rich, very oaky, earthy, malty, with big notes of charred patent malt, raisins and figs, blackberry, and port. A bit more spirity and hot than the copper. Some late hop notes and a taste reminiscent of the scotch barrel beer from Brew Dog.
