4.6 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 19/20 mcmd (261) - Louisville, Kentucky, USA - MAY 21, 2013
Pours black with dark brown edges - looks a bit thin, small mocha head which settles quickly. Smells almost identical to Bourbon County which is a good thing and amazing for a ~10% beer - dark chocolate, bourbon, brown sugar, vanilla, hint of coconut. Taste is great as well - a perfect balance of dark chocolate and bourbon, oak, booze noticeable but provides pleasant warmth - I must say this is the most flavor I’ve experienced in an under 12% beer. Hate to compare it to bourbon county again but this is very similar and almost more drinkable without all the booze and thick body. Great stuff

A - Dark black with a touch of brown and a finger of frothy khaki-chocolate head. Fades normal.
S - Chocolate and dark caramel malts, molasses, oak, Bourbon, vanilla, black licorice, dark cocoa, raisin, coffee, booze.
T - Sweet chocolate and bit of caramel malts, smooth Bourbon, vanilla, lots of oak, molasses, coffee, black licorice, bitter dark cocoa, raisin and other dark fruits, and some booze.
M - Full bodied with moderate carbonation. Smooth and a bit syrupy with a warming and sweet.
D - Great barrel aged stout. The bourbon and oak are very present, but very smooth and balanced.
4.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20 50belair (1334) - Florida, USA - APR 9, 2013
Bottle. The sweetest, smoothest, and most mellow bourbon of all of the treatments. I really dig those those caramel malt, vanilla, oak, and dark roasted malts. Good body and mouthfeel. A very nice imperial stout...
3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 gEUS (582) - Linden, BELGIUM - APR 9, 2013
Taken from notes - 660 ml bottle shared by Jeffo and Erik at Sloshfest 2012 - 6 in a row... The mellowest of em all, despite clear and warm bourbon background.
4.9 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 20/20 Indecipherable (6) - - MAR 14, 2013 does not count
Beautiful aromatic and tasty beer, lots of caramel, chocolate, figs, & bourbon...very black with minimal head, medium sweetness. Very top beer for pure enjoyment.
4.5 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20 Hoprider (59) - DENMARK - MAR 9, 2013
Pours black with a small beige head. Wonderfull aromas of bourbon soaked wood and chocolate, a little bit of vanilla and handbag. The mouthfeel is ultraclean and creamy. Taste is softly roasted malt, soft wood, vanilla, coffee. I’ m having a hard time pulling it apart, it’s very complex. The aftertaste has lots of milk chocolate and creamy coffee notes. Absolutely great!
4.3 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20 MotherBrother (550) - Aalborg, DENMARK - MAR 9, 2013
Pour pitch black, with small tan head.
Aroma is really packed with vanilla and barrel. Really some delicious shit... Also some slight leathery, caramel, bourbon, coffee, dark fruity - and woody notes. But really barrel forward. And I’m a fan.
The taste is quite sweet, with some faint bitter notes. Well balanced? - hell yes. Medium-full bodied, with a semi-flat carbonation. Delicious like a SOB. A Big thanks to Ryan for sending me this shit.
4.5 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20 illidurit (1629) - Santa Cruz, California, USA - FEB 18, 2013
Bottle shared at the Santa Cruz tasting in January. I don’t have a lot of notes, but this one really stood out as tasting like a ridiculous melange of See’s candy flavors. Heaps of chocolate, vanilla, toffee and iced coffee. Very sweet and delicious.
4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 Silphium (2972) - East Lansing, Michigan, USA - FEB 18, 2013
White wax, bottle #1510, vintage 2011, shared by badnewsbeers. Opaque brown-black body, thin coffee & cream head. Spicy nose with oak, less buttery rum than some of the other vintages, but sharper, with honey, chocolate, and coffee bean. Spicy body, distinctive and sharp, with chocolate, coffee, oak, and licorice/anise, finishing with a nice buttery oak finish. Very good, perhaps my favorite vintage.
4.7 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 20/20 barn0216 (217) - California, USA - FEB 17, 2013
Jet black, not much foam, swirling the glass shows some nice legs however. Phenomenal aroma: molasses, raisins, fig, chocolate, cinnamon, and bourbon of course. Taste brings in more of the bourbon along with some cigar tobacco qualities, a mild bitterness from cocoa/coffee. Flavor lingers long after, slowly fading to a mildly sweet and boozy finish. A top ten beer.
