COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Imperial Eclipse Stout aged in special release Elijah Craig 20 Year Bourbon Barrels

Note from the brewer: The white wax 2011 Eclipse was all 20 year. There was no such brand when we acquired barrels, so we called it 18 year. We have since found out that the 20 year old barrels were dumped for a 20yo Elijah Craig special bottling.

Vintages:
2011 Imperial Eclipse Stout (Elijah Craig 18/20 Year Barrel) = White Wax
2012 Imperial Eclipse Stout (Elijah Craig 20 Year Barrel) = White Wax

Poured into a snifter from a 2011 650ml bottle.

A: Deep opaque brown, only seen through on the edges. Thin tan head quickly disappears leaving a small coating.

S: Mellow, but mostly bourbon and oak, slight sweetness comes through.

T: Same as the smell, huge alcohol bourbon sweetness with vanilla mixing in and out. Slight chocolate notes, but very subtle. Easy to sip.

M: Full bodied with light fizzy carb, syrupy.

O: The price of this is my biggest gripe, my second gripe is the price. I like this, but for $30.

22oz. Bottle (2011 Vintage. Bottle # 5422.): Aroma of malt, Bourbon, light coconut, light vanilla, oak, barrel, char, roasting, and light chocolate. Poured pitch black in color with a medium to large-sized, cream, dense, brown head that diminished but lasted throughout. Opaque. Sparkling. Excellent lacing. Flavor is light to medium sweet and lightly bitter. Tastes of malt, light Bourbon, light oak, barrel, light tar, roasting, char, light chocolate, light dark ripe fruit, vanilla, slight coconut, and a hint of cherry. Medium to full body. Smooth, slick, creamy, viscous texture. Soft carbonation. Malt, oak, Bourbon, roasting, slight tar, vanilla finish. 9.5%ABV is completely hidden throughout.

The aroma is amazing, pours with a very light head. Maybe a little low on the carbonation. One of the best barrel aged beers Iíve tried to date. The bourbon flavor intensifies as it warms. Pricey but worth it.

22 0z bottle (white wax). My 1st eclipse. Med/thin body. Immediately slammed by the whiskey itís way overpowering and thereís not much stout to balance it out. Corked it and went back tne next day. Stillvery bourbon fwd but at room temp some vanilla swetnesss finishes off. A pretty good beer its growing on me but tne for the price not the best value.

Bottle. Pours a very dark brown with a thin brown head that dissipates immediately to the edges. Aroma has sweet dark grains with notes of barrel, and vanilla. Flavor is is sweet with barrel and vanilla that is balanced by bitter dark chocolate.

Bottle with Sean and Pat on NYE. Poured a dark silky black color with small to medium beige head. Head faded rather fast but left an awesome trail of sticky lacing. Aromas of bourbon, coconut, figs, honey, dark fruits including berries, plum, and cherry. Other rich notes of malt and roasted chocolate. Taste was filled with smooth bourbon, roasted malt, chocolate, blackberry, molasses, oak, and a touch of coconut. Great aged stout to usher in the new year.

Got my hands on a bottle and sure I had some hype for this one with all the great reviews and all the attention this has been getting at bars I was sure looking foward to this. A: Viscious black, thick, used motor oil with a finger head that goes away in a few seconds. S: Straight burbon and alcohol with some chocolate there. T: Lots and lots of burbon almost no stout here just some sweet chocolate malts in there this was bad seems like totality was raped in the barrels. This finishes with heat in the throat and more heat in the tummy this thing made me choke a couple of times like if I where taking shots of crappy burbon. M: Oily and a bit creamy with heat. O: A fucking drainpour I only drank half the bottle before just saying I had enough I just threw my money away at something I had big hope for. Know im not really gonna hate the beer the thing is I heard alot about bottle variation. Seems this is a gamble with with little chance of getting something bad unfortunately I believe I got a bad bottle. I hope to get this in draft hopefully is not bad. The only thing else I can imagine is that I had this pretty warm about 60 degrees but what am I saying this aint fucking coors so I doubt that was a problem. And I love burbon age stouts Parabola and KBS being personal favorites so Im lost.

2011 bottle, # 2307. Pours thick oily jet black with 1-finger tan head that retains well. More head than the 12 EC here. Nose is very similar to the 18 year; a lot of oaky earthy malt, figgy, port, blackberry, and raisin fruits, oaky spirity. Tastes very rich, smooth to the level of nitrogenation, complex, with loads of oaky spirits, earthy cacaoey and blackberry malt, port, figs, and more heat as it warms, and none of that scotch barrel aftertaste. This one is world-class.
