COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Imperial Eclipse Stout aged in special release Elijah Craig 20 Year Bourbon Barrels

Note from the brewer: The white wax 2011 Eclipse was all 20 year. There was no such brand when we acquired barrels, so we called it 18 year. We have since found out that the 20 year old barrels were dumped for a 20yo Elijah Craig special bottling.

Vintages:
2011 Imperial Eclipse Stout (Elijah Craig 18/20 Year Barrel) = White Wax
2012 Imperial Eclipse Stout (Elijah Craig 20 Year Barrel) = White Wax

Bottle. The sweetest, smoothest, and most mellow bourbon of all of the treatments. I really dig those those caramel malt, vanilla, oak, and dark roasted malts. Good body and mouthfeel. A very nice imperial stout...

Bottle @ Halket Very dark brown with no head. Fruity and woody tones. Fruit, vanilla, malt and wood. Full body with a very nice bitter sweet after taste.

Stora smaker, fantastiskt gott. Superbt dessertöl.

Bottle 660ml. Pours jet black with low off-white head. Aroma is of chocolate, roasted malt, coffee. Taste is of roasted malt, coffee, chocolate, sugar. Palate: Full bodied. Low carbonation. Overall: Nice malt features. Good chocolate/coffee.

Pours a dark brown with a beige/almost brown rim that leaves some lacing. Nose is of bourbon, vanilla, coffee and alcohol. Taste is on the sweeter side and offers chocolate, vanilla bean, bourbon and alcohol again. Body is full, carbonation soft and mouthfeel is rich and syrupy. Overall a good BA imperial stout, I can’t say I’ve been wow’ed by it but it was still really good.

2011 vintage bottle #5253 Pours pitch black with a lacy creamy tan head. Amazing aroma of bourbon, vanilla, chocolate, caramel/ toffee, oak and molasses. Flavor of dark chocolate, bourbon, dark coffee, caramel/toffee, dark fruit, molasses and had a smooth warming bourbon finish. Full bodied, oily texture, soft carbonation. A great barrel aged imp stout.

White wax, bottle #1510, vintage 2011, shared by badnewsbeers. Opaque brown-black body, thin coffee & cream head. Spicy nose with oak, less buttery rum than some of the other vintages, but sharper, with honey, chocolate, and coffee bean. Spicy body, distinctive and sharp, with chocolate, coffee, oak, and licorice/anise, finishing with a nice buttery oak finish. Very good, perhaps my favorite vintage.

Sugary sweet molasses nose. Taste is grossly sweet, lots if molasses and brown sugar, light chocolate. Astringent finish. Not good.

Wow! Pours thick unclear black coffee with a small darker beige head. Aroma and flavor blow the 12 year old out of the water! There are big spicy vanilla and barrel notes with chocolate and mocha on the tongue settling so well. There is a nice creamy but balanced body as well.

Bottle: Wow, my first Eclipse stout. Deep, deep brown around the edges with a jet black center; small tan head fades quickly to a thin collar. Aroma pops with dark cocoa, wood, faint maple syrup, warming & smooth bourbon, mild roasted malt, & a small back-end hint of residual sweetness. Tastes almost like a Hershey’s chocolate bar up front, only darker &lathered in a little bit of bourbon. Again, some back-end maple syrup notes that work their way in nicely. Touch of burnt molasses, dark & bittersweet cocoa beans, & a slight hint of boozy wood lingering on the palate. Semi-thick mouth feel, moderately creamy. Maybe still not worth the price of admission, but a super tasty imperial stout.
