COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Imperial Eclipse Stout aged in special release Elijah Craig 20 Year Bourbon Barrels

Note from the brewer: The white wax 2011 Eclipse was all 20 year. There was no such brand when we acquired barrels, so we called it 18 year. We have since found out that the 20 year old barrels were dumped for a 20yo Elijah Craig special bottling.

Vintages:
2011 Imperial Eclipse Stout (Elijah Craig 18/20 Year Barrel) = White Wax
2012 Imperial Eclipse Stout (Elijah Craig 20 Year Barrel) = White Wax

Opened at the 2013 end of year Ottawa tasting, 2011 bottle via Capones. Side by side with the 12yr EC - similar dark colour, not quite smooth as the 12 but nice amount of burnt malt, oak, vanilla and oak; found this one a little too buttery for my liking along with a little too sweet. Moderate+ body, mild carbonation, smooth, more chocolate and bourbon on the finish.

Bottle @ home bottle no#5059 vintage 2011... trade from hallinghansen, thanks my friend! It pours jet black with a small tan head.... The aroma is hard roasted malt, bourbon, vanilla, oak and dark fruits.... The flavor is very nice roasted malts, licorice, vanilla, bourbon, oak, raisins and chocolate..... very nice!

Bottle white wax #1489 2011 bottling. Pour has a dark brown color bordering on black with a covering of light brown head. Aroma has big juicy bourbon, medium sweetness, heavy rich malt, mild roast, oak, and mellow oxidation. Mouthful is a medium and there is low side carbonation. Flavor comes off with plenty of malt, some roast, medium sweetness, sweet juicy bourbon, raisins, oak, vanilla, mild oxidation, and a lingering finish with some mild heat. Extremely smooth and has taken to the barrel treatment very well.

Aroma of maple syrup, cherry, sweet chocolate and vanilla. Pours black and viscus with no head or film. Taste is sweet with candied cherry, chocolate, vanilla bean, and molasses. This is everything I love about a bourbon aged stout.

Surprisingly light, see-through red/black pour with a bit of a tan head. Big whiskey nose with notes of fruitiness. Flavor is booze, whiskey, oak, and a huge rush of vanilla in the end. Smooth and clean.

22oz bottle with white wax. Pour is consistent with all the 09 and 10ís Iíve had, which is to say itís a little lighter than most impy stouts, dark chocolate brown with a small beige head that sticks to the sides on the way down. Aroma is sublime, big on the bourbon, possibly the most whiskey-forward of any of the versions Iíve smelled before. Lots of coconut and vanilla from the barrels with the underlying chocolate malts taking a bit of a back seat. The taste is a little different but almost as good. The bourbon is there but doesnít have quite the same vanilla and coconut character. Itís more oak and booze with a heavier dose of roast than the aroma. Mouthfeel is trademark Eclipse, crazy smooth but not overly thick. Todd consistently makes some of the most drinkable and well-integrated barrel-aged stouts and this is no exception. This particular iteration is a little heavier on the bourbon than I would prefer (HH09 is damn near ecstasy) but is still excellent. Canít wait to try the other 2011 versions.

Yeah same table as the 12 year but this was much better. Smooth and deliciousness in a bottle.

Bottle picked up at GBBF 2013, 2012 version. Pours a very dark brown to black. Aroma is soy, teriyaki, meat, treacle, marmite, not much sweetness. Full body, mild carbonation. Treacle, marmite, mild bitter choc, coffee, soy sauce, some toffee sweetness, a bit of booze. Certainly has plenty going on, but not entirely convinced about the balanced. Itís good, no question but no more.

2012 bottle pours just like all the other eclipses I've had: dark, khaki head. Bourbon is muted in nose but displays some chocolate. Mouth adds nut and vanilla. More cocoa. Big creamy body.

bottle shared by Matt at Dadtoberfest! deep, dark and tasty. ton of bourbon and chocolate malts, oaky goodness and some campfire notes. Brown sugar sweetness and finishes with some boozey warmth.
