Imperial Eclipse Stout aged in special release Elijah Craig 20 Year Bourbon Barrels

Note from the brewer: The white wax 2011 Eclipse was all 20 year. There was no such brand when we acquired barrels, so we called it 18 year. We have since found out that the 20 year old barrels were dumped for a 20yo Elijah Craig special bottling.

22 oz. bottle, white wax. Sampled along with all the other 2011 releases. Pours a deep, dark amber-brown with a small filmy head. Aroma of coconut, toasted malts, oak, toffee, and molasses. The flavor brings the same toastiness, coconut, brown sugar, and roasted malts along with some dark fruits. Medium-full bodied, with a sweet finish and medium carbonation. This and the Grand Cru were my favorites of the 2011 series.

Bottle from Davis Beer Shoppe. Pours dark brown with a transient tan head and a treacle and bourbon aroma. There is a rich sweet chocolate and dark molasses flavor with a warm bourbon trail. Perhaps my favorite version of Eclipse.

"FiftyFifty is a good brewery with hit and (more often) miss service, but damn do they know how to make a stout. The iced eclipse and now this, the (older) elijah craig eclipse have been two of the best beers I’ve had in 2012. I need me some of this bourbon! Great balance between the wonderful sweet bourbon aromas, vanilla, malted chocolate, dark chocolate, roasted malt, and some bittersweet hops in the aftertaste. Super smooth and deeeelicious!"

Awesome bottle. 2011 edition. Pours a jet black color with a small beige head. A wonderful nose of vanilla, massive mellow bourbon, toffee. huge. The flavor is super easy to drink, mellow, oak, vanilla, burnt caramel, dark fruit, light heat. My rating doesn’t convey how damn good that barrel is. Awesome beer. Top notch BA stout.

2011 bomber (white wax). Poured deeper brown with a short-lived smoked beige head. The aroma picked up peppery bourbon, tobacco, and vanilla over warm cocoa and lesser molasses.. spicy and well-balanced. The flavor opened with a peppery bourbon kick, with warm cocoa, vanilla, and a touch of coffee following.. strong, long-lasting finish with coffee, cocoa, and lovely bourbon and vanilla-ey barrel notes. Heavy-bodied with a creamy mouthfeel.. balance was solid, and this held up very well.

22oz.bottle. Pours dark brown with a small bubbly tan head. The nose is roast, chocolate, bourbon, oak, vanilla, dark fruits and a splash of molasses with some boozy notes as well. The flavor is roasted, chocolate, bourbon, vanilla, dark fruits and molasses. Some light coffee notes. A touch hot and I would like to see a bit more body to support the flavors.

Bottle at Dadtoberfest. Pours near black with a beige head. Roasted malts, bourbon/brandy, dark fruits, dark chocolate, and caramel candies. Good big barrel presence without being overpowering.
