COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Imperial Eclipse Stout aged in special release Elijah Craig 20 Year Bourbon Barrels

Note from the brewer: The white wax 2011 Eclipse was all 20 year. There was no such brand when we acquired barrels, so we called it 18 year. We have since found out that the 20 year old barrels were dumped for a 20yo Elijah Craig special bottling.

Vintages:
2011 Imperial Eclipse Stout (Elijah Craig 18/20 Year Barrel) = White Wax
2012 Imperial Eclipse Stout (Elijah Craig 20 Year Barrel) = White Wax

Bottled @ gbbf, br1 2012, white wax, large sample. Dark color, short brown head. Amazing aroma of choc, bourbon, roast. Taste is soft bourbon, choc, medium sweet and bitterness. Balance is so good, great complexity. Wow. This is how i want my impy and bourbon. Great great stuff.

(22oz bomber during RBWG) clear dark brown with oily tan bubbles. Nose fo vanilla, whiskey, milk chocolate, decadent. Taste of graham cracker, vanilla, rich chocolate, so decadent, maybe a bit too sweet, even for a malthead.

Bottle @ THE Eclipse Tasting. White waxed bottle #1511. Cheers to Bruce for bringing this along! The pour’s deep brown with a tiny tan head. The nose is soft toffee, rum raisin cake, woody bourbon and sweet treacle. The taste is toasted wood, rustic roasted malts. Hints of sweet marshmallow and plums. Light chocolate. The finish is slightly hot bourbon, touches of vanilla. The body’s big and oily, smooth. Overall, a very nice imperial stout. I thought this edged the 12 year edition by a nose.

UPDATED: SEP 23, 2014 65cl, at 9.5%Vol, Vintage 2012 (with white wax), new exclusive American brew, with honey, from De Hopduvel Gent, very complex Stout, roasted/alcoholic/sweet and slightly woody/fruity, yet not too heavy, balanced, hazy, small head, very good Winter brew, yet very expensive!

Bottle: The aroma consists of sweet chocolate, vanilla, and the slightest hint of roast. It pours a dark brown with no transparency and small beige head that leaves behind lots of webbing. The flavor starts with some sugary sweet milk chocolate and a touch of molasses . The finish has light-moderate vanilla and light vanilla. It’s medium bodied with mild carbonation. Overall, it’s more sugary sweetness than bourbon barrel aged.

Thick oily black body with a small beige head. Powerful nice aroma. Chocolate, oak, vanilla and a bit fruity. Oh yeah I can sip on this all evening. What a lovely brew. Nice balance. Chocolate, bourbon, oak, vanilla and mild fruity flavor. More please. Dangerously well masked alcohol. White wax.

Bottle #2516 shared by a friend for rating #3,000. Darkest brown pour with a thin tan head. Aroma of bourbon, chocolate, vanilla, oak, dark fruit and honey. Chocolate and vanilla flavor up front, then some dark fruit and bourbon before a brandy-ish finish. Heat was very manageable, likely due to the 2 years spent in the barrel. Spectacular.

Bottle. Black with a short lived fizzy tan head. Nice bourbon forward, chocolate, caramel, and oak aroma. Smooth silky but oily palate. Tastes of smooth bourbon, vanilla, chocolate, caramel, and roasted coconut and oak. Finishing with a pronounced roasted grain and coffee flavor. Quite good with nice complexity.

Thx. to tderoeck / Tim for this one. 65 cl. beautiful bottle – snow aged – lovely white wax. A beauty to behold, 2011 vintage. Pours very dark brown / black with a mocha head. Smell is booze, sweet mocha, creamy with lots of bourbon, very heavy, vanilla, sweet wood, milk chocolate, touch molasses,… Taste is very heavy on bourbon sweet, lots of barrel, this is very heavily aged, almost as if to mask the base beer which is not really available unless if I am mistaken, caramel, sweetness, toffee, sugar, milk chocolate, liquorice, touch molasses, base feels almost a bit thin for an RIS but it is very heavily aged. Creamy body. Glad to try one of these.
