COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Imperial Eclipse Stout aged in special release Elijah Craig 20 Year Bourbon Barrels

Note from the brewer: The white wax 2011 Eclipse was all 20 year. There was no such brand when we acquired barrels, so we called it 18 year. We have since found out that the 20 year old barrels were dumped for a 20yo Elijah Craig special bottling.

Vintages:
2011 Imperial Eclipse Stout (Elijah Craig 18/20 Year Barrel) = White Wax
2012 Imperial Eclipse Stout (Elijah Craig 20 Year Barrel) = White Wax

Pour pitch black, with small tan head. Aroma is really packed with vanilla and barrel. Really some delicious shit... Also some slight leathery, caramel, bourbon, coffee, dark fruity - and woody notes. But really barrel forward. And I’m a fan. The taste is quite sweet, with some faint bitter notes. Well balanced? - hell yes. Medium-full bodied, with a semi-flat carbonation. Delicious like a SOB. A Big thanks to Ryan for sending me this shit.

22 fl oz bottle. Pours dark brown to black with a small tan head. Aroma is dense malty and liquorice. Smooth bourbon, thick chocolate and malty. Bitter, dark chocolate and malty. Warming alcohol finish. Smooth bourbon chocolate malty into the finish.

Decadent dark brown, tan ringed head. Rich pudding sweet light with the lightest lovely nudge of Bourbon throughout. Pancakey. Oily, super sweet middle and earthy malt kick - very, very rich tar towards the finish. There’s an oily caramel sweetness to the finish that is better than most desserts I’ve enjoyed. Lucious.

Bottle, GBBF 2013, thanks to HarrisonNI (THE KING OF THE PALE ALES) for the forwarding to CGarvieUK

Bottle at Craig’s. Pours jet black with a thin tan head. Aromas of rich christmas pudding, soy sauce and red meat, treacle and bourbon. Amazing nose. Taste subtley blends them all together, coming out with vanilla and maple syrup. Creamy texture, rich mouthfeel, luscious texture. Ace stuff.

2011 Bottle from my cellar. Pours black with beautiful ruby hightlights. nose is molasses, leather, brandy and dried cherries. First sip is sweet with roasted flavors like fresh espresso, followed lovely bourbon notes with deep dark chocolate followed by slightly smokey boozy brownie finish.

Bomber shared with Lotta. Pours jet black with a small bubbly tanned head leaving some laces. Aroma is sweet raisins vinous roasted malty molasses, full bodied, some notes of coffee and chocolate mixed with alcohol. Flavor is similar to aroma, Velvety smooth, vanilla lightly bitter in front increasing towards the end. Surprisingly drinkable, not as heavy as I had expected.

UPDATED: MAR 28, 2014 Drank with Thijs, Mark, Andy & Marjolijn 31-1-2014. Lesser version of the puple one (12 year barrel). Alcohol is less present. The taste is less overwhelming, more neutral. However, still hits the spot on the typical stout-ness.

2011 bomber (white wax). Poured deeper brown with a short-lived smoked beige head. The aroma picked up peppery bourbon, tobacco, and vanilla over warm cocoa and lesser molasses.. spicy and well-balanced. The flavor opened with a peppery bourbon kick, with warm cocoa, vanilla, and a touch of coffee following.. strong, long-lasting finish with coffee, cocoa, and lovely bourbon and vanilla-ey barrel notes. Heavy-bodied with a creamy mouthfeel.. balance was solid, and this held up very well.
