COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Imperial Eclipse Stout aged in special release Elijah Craig 20 Year Bourbon Barrels

Note from the brewer: The white wax 2011 Eclipse was all 20 year. There was no such brand when we acquired barrels, so we called it 18 year. We have since found out that the 20 year old barrels were dumped for a 20yo Elijah Craig special bottling.

Bottle. Black pour with an initially thick dark tan head that fades out to a ring of foam on the edges of the glass. Aroma is a very pleasant sweet bourbon with pronounced vanilla, marshmallow, and spice intermixed with oak. Taste is slightly hot but decadent bourbon with vanilla followed by spice and a bit of the underlying base beer including chocolate and sweet, darker fruit. Mouthfeel is light, even, and perhaps a bit creamy. I actually like that the relatively low ABV of the base beer allows the barrel presence and bourbon influence to stand out more. Great beer.

Bottle. The sweetest, smoothest, and most mellow bourbon of all of the treatments. I really dig those those caramel malt, vanilla, oak, and dark roasted malts. Good body and mouthfeel. A very nice imperial stout...

Bottle 02/13/2012. Pours black, one finger head dying down to coat the surface, great lacing left behind. Aroma dominated by bourbon notes, vanilla coconut, supported in the background by chocolate, roasted malts. Taste follows suit, lots of coconut, vanilla, darker malts, hint of chocolate fruitiness, roasted coffee finish. Full in the mouth, extremely drinkable. A bit more complexity aside from the barrel would send this over the top, but as it is a really great brew.

Bottle @ TFODRBSG, Ulfborg. Black with a light brown head. Aroma is sweet, roasted malt, coffee and bourbon. Flavor is quite sweet and rather bitter. Dry and rather bitter finish with warming alcohol. Oily. 180812

Tap. Black pour. No head. Strong aroma of bourbon. Taste is pleasantly sweet, a little like port. I also got flavors of dark cherry, vanilla, oak, and dark malts. The body is heavy. This beer is definitely a sipper.

Bottle @ toronado sd. $56. Right. Ok. Boozy but coherent nose mixing the stouty malts with the whiskey influence, smidgen of boozy heat beneath, but with enough refinement to allow the cookie and vanilla notes to shine. Dark brown pour with whispy thin darker tan head. Flavors bring it all together again...a lot of sweetness but yet enough booziness to counterbalance...cookie dough and vanilla are strong but complimenting the chocolaty undertones of the base stout. Everything here is nicely balanced, boozy in a good way. Its on the sweet side, yes...but I think the retained boozy qualities counterbalance the sweetness sufficiently. Much better than early releases as far as my memory is concerned. Quite nice indeed

22 ounce thanks to adnielsen. Big black pour. Chocolate in the nose. Bourbon totally in the body. Not too heavy a beer. But that bourbon really carries it.

Tasted on draft at FoBAB 2011. Pours opaque oily black with a thin tan head that leaves a thin ring of lace. The nose is dry dark chocolate, with coffee, roasted malt, coconut, and vanilla oak. The flavor is dry and nicely balanced with coconut, vanilla, darkly roasted coffee bean malt, and bitter dark chocolate. The body is full and creamy with light carbonation and a long coffee, dark chocolate, coconut, and vanilla whiskey finish.

Bottle. Thanks Nightfall. Pours jet black with a medium beige head. The aroma is hard roasted with notes of vanilla, oak, chocolate and ripe fruit. The flavour is vanilla, bourbon, oak, roasted malt, chocolate and light liquorice.
