COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
4 versions of Eclipse this year. The lions share will go to Evan Williams Single Barrel. Barrels were 10-13 years old. These barrels were kept in an ambient temp storage situation. Approx 180 days in the wood. Should be somewhat bourbon forward with notable barrel character behind the spirit. Beer may have thinned due to storage temp and mild vinous notes based on oxygen pickup during aging. Estimated bottle count...3500. Subject to change...

UPDATED: DEC 3, 2015 Poured from a 2010 bottle. Aroma has a moderate dark chocolate note with a light roast and leather presence. Moderate dried fruit notes with raisin and prune being most prevalent. A moderate sherry note as well. Light bourbon notes. Pours black with a small, thick, mocha head that recedes quickly to a faint film that lingers. Light lacing and medium legs. Flavor is moderately sweet with some nice dark chocolate notes as well as hints of dark caramel and toffee. Light roast, tobacco and leather notes. Flavor has lighter dark fruit and sherry notes than the aroma. Faint oak with light bourbon notes in the finish. Some nice raisin and grape notes. Mouthfeel is medium to medium full bodied with medium low carbonation. Low astringency and low alcohol warmth. Overall, a nice beer but it seems like the Eclipse series really found their stride after 2010. Oxidation is definitely starting to creep in, but itís still fairly light in the flavor. 2010 - 3.6 2012 bottle is thicker with less dark fruit, especially in the aroma and more chocolate and bourbon. A light ashy note is present though. 2013 bottle has brighter bourbon and a nicer mouthfeel. Less dark fruit and lacking the ashy note of 2012. Score is based on the best bottle, 2013.

Bottle, 2012. Pours dark clear black, medium tan head, dissipates fairly slowly, decent lacing. Aroma is rich chocolate, bourbon, vanilla, molasses and anise. Flavor is medium sweet, light plus bitter, rich and cocoa like, lots of bourbon, some oak tannin, anise again, molasses and a bit of roast. Medium body, creamy mouthfeel. Solid effort.

Bottle from the rotter. 2012 black wax. Nose is fudge and brownies. Some dark chocolate. Decadent. Black pour with dark brown highlights. Minimal head. Tate is a sugary sweet brownie with mid palate warming and a finish that leaves me tingling. Lots of rich chocolate and sugar but well short of cloying or diabetes. Pretty dang good for a big boozy stout
