COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
4 versions of Eclipse this year. The lions share will go to Evan Williams Single Barrel. Barrels were 10-13 years old. These barrels were kept in an ambient temp storage situation. Approx 180 days in the wood. Should be somewhat bourbon forward with notable barrel character behind the spirit. Beer may have thinned due to storage temp and mild vinous notes based on oxygen pickup during aging. Estimated bottle count...3500. Subject to change...

65 cl bottle @ PBF 2013. 2012 vintage with black wax.
Pours very deep dark red, almost black color with a small beige head. Aroma of licorice, roasted malts, dark chocolate and hops. Flavor of licorice, roasted malts, syrup. some tar and honey. Feels a bit harsh and the balance is a bit off. Somewhat disappointing.

650ml bottle @ PBF 2013 from a trade with Hugonaut13. Thanks!

Bottle BR/1 2012 - Pours dark brown, almost black with a smooth light brown head. Aroma of strong bourbon notes, vanilla, wood, oak, roastiness, honey, hints of dark chocolate and coffee. Taste is sweet, sticky, bourbony and wooden with notes of oak, honey and vanilla. Hints of dark chocolate and coffee as well. Sweet and sticky finish with some roastiness and loads of bourbon. A bit too sweet for my taste.

65 cl bottle (9,5%) @ PBF VIII, bottle BR1/2012
Aroma has bourbon notes, vanilla, oaky notes and cocoa. Bourbon is quite strong on flavour side too. Thereís lots of woody notes, dark chocolate, some vanilla, hints of soy sauce and salty licorice. Sticky and rich stuff. A bit too woody though.

Backlog review, 2010 bottle tasted 06/15/2011. Pours pitch black, little head, but visible carbonation and tan hazy swirls on the surface. Aroma is sweet chocolate, roast malts, toffee, coconut and vanilla, tempered by bourbon booze that grows in character with warmth. In the taste, chocolate is not as pronounced, but instead sweet, light cherry with roast bitterness, the bourbon really comes out. Medium body, yet creamy and smooth, typical for this series. Well put together, could use a bit more integration with the barrel to be really great.

2012 bottle shared by a friend for his birthday. Darkest brown pour with a medium tan head. Malty and chocolatey nose with whiskey, vanilla and some roast. Malty and chocolatey flavor with big booze before a dry, roasty and boozy finish.

Thanks to Beer Savant for sharing 2012 and 2010 vintage bottles during his 50th birthday bash. Brownish-black pour with a medium foamy tan head that diminishes steadily to a film. Shorts strings of lacing. The aroma consists of dark chocolate, bourbon and vanilla. Full-bodied with a boozy character and flavors of coconut, chocolate malt and vanilla. The finish is oaky with a mocha aftertaste. Very enjoyable overall.

In short: A roasted, oaky and boozy big BA impy stout like so many others.
How: Bottle 22oz, 2010 vintage, thick black wax, consumed when over two years of age. Bottle sent to me by Grownfool, thanks a lot Brian.
The look: Black body topped by a very small tan head.
In long: Nose is medium-intensity barrels, roast, bakery chocolate and light coconut sensation. Taste is charred cereals, burnt black cake, chocolate chips cookies, lots of wood, a light vinous sensation. A bit too much alcohol presence considering 10% really isnít that much for a beer like this. Sweetness sensation is medium at most which is nice. Astringent woody finish. Its chocolaty character was nice but the booze and woody astringency makes it a little less easy to drink than other entries in this series, took me a while to drink my bomber. Just another big Barrel Aged sipper, nothing new here, lots in a sea of similar beers. And to all beer store owners, this racial profiling has got to stop, just because Iím an adult Caucasian male you assume Iím ok with paying $30 for a bottle of beer, you might be right but it is still racial profiling.
