23 oct 2025, bottle. Black. Nose is astringent, sweet dark chocolate, hints of bourbon. Full body and mildly fizzy. Bitter dark chocolate, bitter wood, sweet, tobacco. Great!

Poured from a 22 ounce bomber capped in 2013. There are the huge chocolate, coffee, roasted malts that are in every Eclipse. The High West barrel makes this have a slightly spicy, caramel, vanilla character. A surprisingly dry finish that is in balance with the rest of the beer, Very nice.

2014 version. Easily the best Eclipse variant I’ve had. Much more body than most in the series. Pours black with light brown head, rich chocolate and dark fruit aroma with definite bourbon and oak. Flavor follows the nose, with a nice rich sweetness that I don’t get from other versions of this beer. Not sure what happened in these barrels, but it managed to improve the beer substantially. This was nice.

[9/24/15] Bottle sample at the pre-Borefts tasting at ABC Beers in Den Haag. Thanks everyone who shared bottles! Black with a light brown head. Great aroma of chocolate, bourbon, cookies. Sweet flavor with chocolate, bourbon, vanilla, cookies, and an alcoholic touch. Full-bodied. Really good.

Sample at SBWF. 2014 bottle. Pours very dark brown with a small tan head. Aroma is loads of bourbon/vanilla with a lot of chocolate. Flavour is bitter chocolate, light cherry and vanilla/oak. Slightly boozy bourbon finish.

Bottle split at the ABC Beers pre Borefts tasting, 24/09/15. Black topped with a rich beige covering. Nose is dark malt, chocolate sauce, spice, dark toffee, biscuit, subtle bourbon. Taste comprises light charr, subtle bourbonics, chocolate, spice, dates, figs. Medium + body, fine carbonation, semi drying close with a boost. Solid impy work.

22 oz bottle, 2014 vintage.
Rich black, with a thin but tight tan head, sitting atop a clear layer of alcohol, minimal lace
Aroma is huge. Chocolate, bourbon, vanilla, oak, dark roasted malts, a touch of smoke.
Flavor is sweet chocolate, bourbon, vanilla, oak, smoke, dark fruit, light molasses, with a drying finish.
Smooth mouth-feel, and never gets boozy despite the high abv. Not sure I would pay the $28 price tag, but would certainly pay $14.

Pre Borefts Tasting at ABC Beers, Den Haag. Opaque black - brown beer, tidy tan head. Airy palate, semi dry. Light fine carbonation. Modest dark chocolate in the dark malts. Bourbon soaked dark fruits. Spice. Light semi dry finish. Light and easy going for it’s abv.

Bottle. Opaque black liquid with medium tan head. Aroma of bourbon, licorice, chocolate, biscuit, vanilla, wood and sweet alcohol. Taste is light to medium sweet and light bitter with notes of licorice, chocolate, vanilla and bourbon. Full bodied with low to medium carbonation. Really nice!

Bottle @ Pre-Borefts Tasting, courtesy of the European Crew! 2013 vintage. Pours a pitch black beer with a big off white, creamy head on top. Aroma of bourbon, slightly caramel, loads of booze and some nice oaky vanilla. Flavor is very sweet and boozy with loads of oak and the beer is full bodied and thick. Soft carbonation, longlasting sweet aftertaste and very well balanced. Nice!
