Serving: 2013 bottle, High West Rye variant. Jet black pour with really no head. Heavy rye whiskey notes up front with a light coffee and bitter chocolate note in the back. The rye adds an interesting twist on the tongue. Heavy wood notes as well. The one comes across as a little hot. Less sweet and more boozy than the Four Roses. Overall impression: The rye boarders on overwhelming for me. Between this one and the Four Roses, Im taking the latter.

Bottle, shared among friends. Pours deep ruby black with a small tan head and some lacing. Oh oh, who ever heard of a BA impy stout that was not pure opaque blackness? Aroma is rye whiskey, chocolate, fig, roasted malts. Nice. Flavor is medium sweet, light bitter, rye, vanilla, chocolate. Deserty. Medium body at best. Nice beer.

Black pour with minimal head. Aroma of citrus, whiskey, and orange peel. Taste is beautiful citrus and whiskey with a lively bite. Great stuff.

Bottle thanks to Matt. Pours a dark brown with small beige head that diminishes quickly. The aroma is a strong rye, oak, and booze. Medium mouthfeel with a strong rye, oak, and boozy finish. Good.

Pour out of 22 oz bottle, 2013 lime wax. Thick black pour with creamy tan head, aroma brought notes of big dark chocolate, brownie notes, mix of vanilla, rye, spice notes into a bit of molasses, brown sugar. Taste is a mix of brownie batter, dark chocolate, roast, hints of rye, spice, oak, vanilla, hints of earth, finishing fairly sweet, slightly bitter. Very nicely done.

Big bold dark brown pour chocolate brown head. This is a really nice version, one of the better I have had in awhile. Nice spicy rye notes, lots of dark chocolate, vanilla, robust body. Very enjoyable.

Bottle shared by thebaldwizard in the post-Grand Tasting Columbus dork room fart n bottle share. Thanks, Joe! Pours a deep brown with a small beige head. Notes of rye whiskey throughout, along with dark chocolate, roasted malts, oak, dark fruits, marshmallow, and molasses. Medium-bodied, with a warming, sweet mouthfeel and moderate carbonation. Very nice.

>> Pours clear deep cola, no foam. Nose is softer brown alcohol, nice rye barrel. Taste is anesthetic, medicinal, sugary, cough syrup. Palate is cough syrup, big sugar. Not my style.

Bottle from Davis Beer Shoppe. Pours dark brown with a modest tan head and a chocolate and treacle aroma. There is a hearty chocolate malt flavor with a warming bourbon trail.
