3.9 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
AdamC. with share of the 650 ml bottle with lime green wax. Pitch black color, thin lasting head that had lacing. Aroma has a spicy element that isn’t rye, more licorice. I’m not a huge fan of licorice.
This was sampled side-by-side with two other variants of this stout. I have to say the spicy notes and licorice throws this off flavor wise for me. He body is fuller and creamy just as a Impy stout should be. Coffee and chocolate are here. Still good if you can afford the bottle price and lice a spicy licorice notes.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bomber, 2014 variant split 6 ways at fridge temp. This obviously is pouring pitch black. Smells really good. There’s some sage, cinnamon sort of aroma. Spicy with chocolate and vanilla. This is really good. Bright, juicy, very intense bitterness with a good spicy finish. It has a dark chocolate taste. there’s some old burnt coffee.

4.2 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Dark brown with tan head. Smells very bourbony. Taste is delicious. I love bourbon. And chocolate. And maybe a bit of vanilla. Not as good as Evan Williams 23 but better than Woodford.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
2014 vintage (the wax is more of a yellowish green than pictured here), shared with a number of friends. Viscous dark brown, finely bubble brown head. Aroma is sweet and boozy, chocolate and rye. The palate isn’t as soft or complex as some of the other offerings in this series, with a boozier finish than I’d like. Still a very nice sipper, but just not my favourite in the series.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
2014 bottle from shelves on my Vermont trip. Pours black with nice brown head. Aroma of lots of char, some fruity notes. Flavor follows with big char and sweetness. But this is way thin, even for an Eclipse variant. It’s too bad they can’t make a base beer that stands up to the barrels, because all the flavors here are really nice. Thicken this beer up, please.
